I was wondering if any of the forum members had questions for Dion! He was signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, in 2004 - 2005. He is currently working on new songs and prepping for a new album.
Just to name a few songs he's featured on....
- "Runnin'" by The Game and Tony Yayo
- "Let It Go" by Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek
- "Step Your Game Up (Remix)" by Little Brother and Hi-Tek
- "Doin' Time" by Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek
- "So Tired" by Bun B, Devin The Dude, Pretty Ugly, and Hi-Tek
- "My Piano" by Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, and Hi-Tek
- "Twist Your Body" by 213
- "Ryder Music" by 50 Cent
- "Scent of a Woman" by Xzibit
- "Ol' English" by The Game

Dion, a protege of hip-hop producer Hi-Tek, has signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath label. A due date for Dion's solo debut has yet to be set, but Billboard has learned that the recording gears are already in motion: Hi-Tek, Dr. Dre, Focus and Mike City will produce tracks for the project.
The 23-year-old Cincinnati-based artist came to Dr. Dre's attention as a result of his hook-singing talent on potential tracks Hi-Tek submitted under his own Aftermath production deal. Dre's invitation to record hooks for the superproducer's various projects led to Dion's appearance on "I'm Runnin'" from the Game's 2005 debut album.
For the still uninitiated, Hi-Tek describes Dion as a "new-age Marvin Gaye" with natural talent and a soulful sound. "What attracted me about working with Dion was his tone," Hi-Tek recalls. "He's a smooth guy who directs a lot of songs toward the ladies. He's also a strong writer with a real vision of how he wants to project himself as an artist."
Hi-Tek says many young R&B male artists are "aggravating and corny because these singers have got caught up in the Boyz II Men thing. I'm not dissing those cats. But these new singers have lost the raw, soulful edge that we used to have with Bobby Womack and other artists.
"That's what acts like Dion and Governor bring to the table," he adds. "Like an R. Kelly, they possess a raw edge with a hip-hop twist. There's nothing corny about them."
As for other projects on his studio board, Hi-Tek notes that he's in talks with Koch about distributing the follow-up to his 2001 Rawkus solo debut, "Hi-Teknology."

Does he have a lot of unreleased material in the stash ?
If so, any plants to release/leak any of it ?
Will any be on the new album ?

Those songs Dion had on the Hi-Tek albums were the highlights. I thought that was THE SOUND right there. Like "This is how new music should feel". Fresh but very nostalgic. Everybody keeps talking about how Dre needs all these older West Coast vets on Detox but Dion would have been my choice to get on that album.

First time I heard "Ol English" he made me think of Nate. I would love to hear a solo album from him, never really hear him on featurings, somebody should hook up a "best of" of his apparitions.
Was Nate an inspiration for him ? Did he met him since he's credited for 213's "Twist Yo Body" ?

These are the songs that made me a fan....

Basically, "Hi-Teknology 2" is like the best Dion tracks. I don't know if previewing it on the Internet is the way to go. Cruise around and listen to that HT2 CD is the way to go.

Going to leave this open for one more day then I'm going to conduct the interview.

Dude is dope but let's be real for a minute...he's NOT a guy you want a solo album from. Same can be said for Kobe. Hell even Nate Dogg's major album didn't do well and that was a damn good album.
Some guys are meant for hooks. But after hearing talk to me, I want you girl, and so cold...I thought butch cassidy was gonna break that mold

Well regarding Nate Dogg his albums were never really promoted. Don't know about G-Funk classics but Music & Me went gold, it's not that bad.

dunno where u read that but Music & Me didn't reach gold either. As of January 2003, it had sold 400k so maybe it did reach gold (especially if people bought his music after his death which i doubt though) but i've never seen it confirmed anywhere.

"His album "Music & Me" was released on December 4, 2001 and sold 500000 copies, making it the first gold album by Nate Dogg"

Seen it on a couple of sites that Music & Me went gold. Nima is supposed to have access to soundscan, would be interesting if he could clear it.

I ended up giving the interview to a friend of mine, I'm probably going to re-do it because I didn't like the way it came out.

Haha, thanks! I appreciate the love. He didn't give me good answers, that's why I scrapped it.

I thought Dion's answers were fine, just some of the way the questions were asked came off as weak.
Shit like this: "I mean on the final album version of the track, you get replaced with Tony Yayo, which I believe sucks. I mean I know you are a singer but you have more talent in your left pinky then he does in his entire body. "
"Wow, I guess it is a learning experience. What to deal with and not to deal with in this terrible industry that we are in. "
