Not very many of them get talked about here. I check dubcnn once in a while. Some of its decent. That's how I found out about Kendrick Lamar, before he got a Dre cosign. What are some of the artists you started listening to after finding them on dubcnn? (someone who's not already talked about on dubcc)
-
no..
but i found the music of Ill Camile, Clinton Wayne and Mykestro through dubcnn
-
Yeah I check out the site all the time. I listen to pretty much all of the artists that they feature but the one that sticks out the most that I still to this day bump would be Young De and Bishop
-
no..
-
no not in many years
-
props for contributing a good topic!
sometimes. not at first cuz im always skepticle to hearing new artist at first. i have so much music that i still havent skimmed through to ad more music to the play list.
I generally read the "buzz" around the forum to see who's coming up and what not. If i keep reading about the same artist time and time again, i will give them a chance and will listen to at least 2 of their tracks to get an idea if i like it or not.
so far im feeling kendreck lamar, dom kennedy and nip hussle!
in the past when these artist were coming up i was feeling
bad lucc , damani, terrece martin with his locke high mixtape and bishop. almost forgot about problem.
one of my alltime fav that i found out through dubcnn is crooked i.
so it depends really.
-
I never check them out unless they got an artist ive heard of b4 featured in 1 of their songs.
-
I do. The Dub put me on to:
Focus... (his Dedicated album still bangs to this day)
Bishop Lamont (although I stopped listening/caring about him since he barely drops anything)
Taje + Get It Gang (Hot Box 2 is still pretty damn good)
Black Milk (Caltroit with Bishop)
Young De (Audio Hustlaz Vol. 1)
Nipsey Hussle (Bullets and They Roll are both hot)
Pac Div
Omar Cruz
Strong Arm Steady
Stat Quo
+ others that I can't remember
thanks Dubcnn 8)

I've got one of his songs that I liked but the lyrics didn't really impress me, moreso the beat. But maybe I'll check out his mixtapes.

You should, Audio Hustlaz mixtape and his latest are really good. His hooks are quality.

Last artist I discovered from dubcnn was Candis Francis and her song "All Night" was better than the same repetitive shit most of the rappers get promo'd for lol
-
sometimes.
i have a lot of music, so i don't check everything
Bishop Lamont (although I stopped listening/caring about him since he barely drops anything)
he dropped 2 mixtapes & several other free songs since he left aftermath ???
-
I used to but I got tired of hearing a great song and then reading about album delays for two years.. plus 99% of rap sucks ass nowadays and as long as the game is trend-following by nature i have no faith in these unknown soldiers being the saviours hiphop
-
Most of my findings from the west came from 2dopeboyz, but those from Dubcnn would be:
*Nipsey Hussle
*Jay Rock
*Ca$his
*Sly Boogy
*Mykestro

A bit. Like i download odd tracks from the news page. Sometimes i dont get around to checking them out for a long time but every so often i'll just play random tracks, add them to the media player play list and listen to them.
I do watch the videos, i go to you tube and download them all, add them to the collection.
Probably Nipsy hustle and kendrick the main ones i checked out. I like some jay rock stuff and lock smith. Admittedly though i'll just listen to the songs a couple/few times , watch teh video once or twice and thats about it.
Cant say i really go out of my way to check the mix tapes and etc.
I did order kendricks album though. I used to make video discs up an play em at mates houses but lots of ppl wasnt really feelin lots of the new stuff.
EDIT: Oh those um, shadow runners, himself the majestic, that ep/mix tape they did was dope! but apart from that iam sleeping on them.
-
been checkin em out since i joined the board...thats back waaaay when sgv was on here...
i remember the domino contest..i won n never recieved the prize..lol
never been a music snob

Bishop Lamont (although I stopped listening/caring about him since he barely drops anything)

haven't checked the site out in a while to be honest, but like said before most of it gets posted in this section. A couple of artists that I started listening to in recent times are Kendrick and Bishop.

Sometimes,
I've gotten a lot of single songs off of the front page, artist that I end up never hearing from again and some that surprise me and end up creating a buzz, nipsey and kendrick.
Got into gmalone from there too.

Yeah TA was trash and their only a few tracks I was feeling off his last mixtape, the ones I was feeling really were dope though. Still anticipating his official debut.
Btw what happened to Omar cruz? He had some bangers and I actually thought he was gonna drop!

fair enough.
i think shawshank is somewhat similar to the mixtapes that were released before team america though.

Oh i thought 40 Glocc and Bad Lucc would go further. I got into some of their stuff.
I like some of the Hustle boyz stuff.
-
Not as much as I used to, they are getting pretty bad so I have cut my time here alot.
-
I listened to more of XL Middleton, and did give R.O.M.E a chance. I liked what the name was short for and some of his production skills, but he was pretty weak as a rapper to be considered an all round package like XL Middleton. I've gave others a chance and have been entertained such as Locksmiths battle raps. Others like Pac Div that a lot on here hype up just suck. Anything I've heard have been weak, modern day trash

to me bishop was really average, i think dre picked him because he was alright and wasnt "too gangsta", but dude wasnt gonna come up wit his beats cuz his demeanor was kind of boring.
i loved a couple of tracks, but if dre didnt take him under his wing for that time, i would of never gaven him a 2nd look.

The problem with these guys (namely bishop) is this...how long can we keep listening to mixtapes while they promise a great album? Shit gets old after a while.

The highlights for me were "change is gonna come", "hollow eyes", "rain" and "you ain't fresh". Some of the tracks just seemed to have bad mixing or sounded messy.

Same here, I usually check out dubcnn first then come here, and I have to pretty much agree with your list on artists I've found on dubcnn and liked at least some of their music
-
The problem with these guys (namely bishop) is this...how long can we keep listening to mixtapes while they promise a great album? Shit gets old after a while.
For real, I agree with that. But I guess at least they are puttin' out music, sometimes their best songs are on the mixtapes as opposed to what does get leaked from the album
I think the problem today is that you have to keep puttin' out music to build buzz before you even get a chance to put out an album...and not independently
-
Some artists I also found on dubcnn...
Hustle Boyz
K-Boy
Glasses Malone
Terrace Martin
They get talked about in here now, but I saw them up on dubcnn first
-

sure, but his mixtapes are similar to albums.
not to mention that some songs from those projects were meant for the retail album at some point.

i agree with some of the choices.
the mixtape has some annoying songs
