Title: Tha West Coast 2011 Appreciation Thread
Post by: D-Nice on July 25, 2011, 01:19:53 PM
I just wanted to say this.

2011 I have been very impressed with the music that has come from the west. It's becoming almost too many to name as far as quality releases.

But the main thing I am excited and proud about is west coast artists coming together and supporting each other again. Especially the OGs with the younger artists. I think all it took was for new acts to get a opportunity to shine and put out material and if you a fan of good music, you can't help but support it. From the video with Dre, Snoop, DOC and Fred Wreck all vibing to Jay Rock to Snoop bigging up Kendrick, it's a good time to be a fan of west coast music. Of course there are always some bad apples in a bunch but overall people are bringing it.

My fav west coast album in 2011 so far would be 3 at this point that get constant rotation

Snoop Dogg- Doggumentary
Brotha Lynch Hung- Coathanga Strangla
Schoolboy Q- Setbacks

honorable mention- Section 80, D.A.Z., Book Of David and I can't wait till tomorrow to pick up Follow Me Home from Jay Rock. Feel free to add your 2 cents or your favorite albums from the west so far this year. And we still got 4 more months to go.

I'm not saying it's a banner year back to the glory days. TBH I don't know if it will ever get back to that height or music in general, but most def there have been some great albums that have dropped this year

disappointing as hell compared to 2010, 2009, which weren't amazing years to begin with. Honestly its the last year I'd give an appreciation thread to. Nothing outstanding, a few good releases and a lot of disappointments/delayed releases.

Spice None speaks the truth. Not much to appreciate in 2011. However, we still got 5 months left in the year.

Kendrick Lamar Section 80 has been my favorite so far. I have yet to listen to the Brotha Lynch album. Quik's was pretty decent. I liked Daz album over Snoops.

My favorites so far, as far as albums, are WC "Revenge of the Barracuda", Strong Arm Steady "Arms & Hammers", Snoop Dogg "Doggumentary", DJ Quik "Book of David", and E-40 double albums. Also like certain tracks from Brotha Lynch, Schoolboy Q, Hopsin, Jay Rock, Mack & Malone, Snoop & Wiz, some from The Games "Purp & Patron", 1st Generation, Daz, Dawaun Parker, Black Hippy.

Also am happy the LBC Crew & O.F.T.B. Death Row albums were released (despite the mastering).

This year has been impressive (better than last year IMO), some of my favorite releases would be...

*Jay Rock - Follow Me Home
*New Boyz - Too Cool To Care
*Lil B - I'm Gay
*Snoop Dogg - Doggumentary

Though TBH I got bored of all of these in like 2 days lol...
I hope Nipsey and Tyga drop their albums soon...
