The onetime Dogg Pound member and keyboardist for "Natural Born Killaz" adds on the growing list of new and familiar contributors.
Dr. Dre's forthcoming third solo studio album Detox has been in the making for a decade. The Aftermath/Interscope Records release has reportedly included numerous personnel from earlier parts of Dr. Dre's career, including Sir Jinx, DJ Quik, The D.O.C. and others. Another name can be added to this growing list. Today, a press statement from emcee/producer Soopafly confirmed that the Long Beach, California veteran is also contributing to Detox sessions.
"I'm in studio working with Dr. Dre again. Making sure this Detox sound got my imprint on it too. You won't be disappointed,” said Soopafly in a press statement.
A onetime member of Tha Dogg Pound, Soopafly began his career playing keyboards for Death Row Records hits such as "Natural Born Killaz" by Dre and Ice Cube. Burgeoning into emcee and producer, Soopafly stayed at the label that Dre co-founded to the early '00s, after his solo debut, Like It Or Not was shelved indefinitely. On August 30, Soopafly will release his third solo album, Best Kept Secret, on his own Fly2K Records imprint.

DRE's starting to have the right people around him ;D

Everyone and their mother have said they've been working on Detox. Shit means nothing if Dre doesn't speak on it.

Better question is: Who HASN'T worked on Detox?

+100. Follow up question: "why should people still care about Detox after all of these years?"

Because ONLY Dre can save us ;D

I actually wrote a verse for Detox.

Daz Dillinger. Now, that's one collabo I would love to see happen again on the production tip bcuz they have created some classics together along with Warren G. That would be dope.

If there is one track where Soopafly is credited at all, I'll be surprised.
Then again, as much as DOC has been involved, I doubt we'll see him credited much.
If Dre was smart, yes, he would have DOC doing lyrics, somebody like Soopafly on keyboards, and a few old school friends on it. For the record I dont think Warren G, Daz, or a few others should be on there. Face it, Warren and Daz have fell the fuck off. Honestly the only people from the Death Row days that should be involved are Snoop, DOC (writing), Soopafly (keys), Kurupt, Nate (if they could make it work without it being dumb) and maybe hit up RBX and Rage each for a verse. Then you also got Eminem, who deserves to be there, and then you probably got Jay-Z and the Game and hopefully they could leave it at that. No Weezy, no Swizz Beatz, no garbage.

nate dogg is dead.
but kush, i need a doctor are fucking whack, they need to be scrapped

How did Soopafly put Dre on the spot in that video?
-
Dre's lookin for a new co-producer in Soopafly. If he goes with him, this could mean a more G-Funk/West geared direction of the album since that is what Fly usually produces. As far as the author of the article, Soopafly was never an official member of Tha Dogg Pound. He's in the DPG clique, but 'Tha Dogg Pound' is Daz & Kurupt, so you have to question the credibility of the article right off the bat since they don't even know who Tha Dogg Pound really is.
Also, the reason Daz and Dre will probably never work together roots back to that 1996 beef with Pac and Dre where Dre was takin credit for producing tracks that Daz produced and he told Pac about it and it made Pac boil. Dre really is the one in this situation that hasn't been able to forgive Daz and he has just ignored him.

If I Need A Doctor is saving us then hip hop truly is dead :-X

in a recent video dre clearly speaks of working together.
but nothing has changed since the album has no release date

lol dubcc, the only place where there would be a debate on the officiality of whos really in dpg, dpgc, and tha dogg pound

Didn't Soopafly say this shit weeks ago? I know there's already been two topics about this.

or where Daz claimed Dre was, but Daz did the same to Dre. So Dre probably isn't all that happy after ghost-producing for him, for him then to turn around and claim Dre is stealing tracks from him. Daz's fault, if I was Dre I wouldn't work with him again either.

yeah Daz is the one member of DPG who I don't see Dre working with

Daz never took credit for any Dre beats. You Dre stans need to cut it out already. Dre still mad because Daz was the first to expose his ass
-
lol i prefer daz over dre any day (i guess i'm a daz stan) but that's not the point right here. what dre was accused of doing, daz has done similar things since (voluntarily or involuntarily) to dre and other producers.

just let it go, the topic is about soopafly

i love daz, but this is very believable

Lol at a press release for this, would be good to see soopa work with dre again.

lmao i though the same thing. i was like "press release wtf" hahah. it would be definitely good to see soopa back with dre. soopafly is a seasoned and versatile musician and i'm sure dre could benefit from his creativity. i doubt it will happen though. if detox miraculously comes out i doubt it'll feature the music soopafly is supposedly working on.

Agreed 100%, if I remember correctly Daz was also left off the 'Up In Smoke Tour' in 1999.

Sounds like it could be a great thing for Detox if the two of them got down on the album together but I can't help but think of how many records have already been cut for "Detox" that have ended up in the vault or used for someone elses mixtape or album. We've heard that Dre is working with Soopafly, the D.O.C. is getting involved as well and we all saw that video where Dre's backstage with Snoop and the DPG fam but going by what we've seen in recent years it all doesn't really mean anything. I could see all of this just pass and we might get one half-assed leaked track and then, nothing... what ever they did is put on the back burner and Dre will continue to work on Detox with whoever. By the type of music Dre has been involved with recently it doesn't seem like he wanted that westcoast or G-Funk sound at all, it's all been totally opposite of what working with the DPG camp would sound like. So unless Dre's pulling a 180 and going in a totally different direction (I really hope he is), I can see nothing really coming out of all this. I'm not trying to sound negative, I want it to happen, but chances are slim that it will.

perhaps he really wants to work with everybody that he's worked with in the past

Dre seems abit like a maniac. Imagine of how many people worked for one album, for how long, how many tracks has been made. Unbelievable.
-
Soopafly has an album coming out, so Dre's doing Priest a favor by letting him jump on the Detox myth hype machine for some extra promo.

Oh, here you go again.

Man it seems like Detox was suppose to drop in 06 almost 6 years ago.. does anyone know the original date it was suppose to drop?

the first date ever announced was sometime in 2002 if i'im correct. i remember reading the news on westcoast 2k where Dre said he wanted to break away from the gangsta cliche.
-
everyone claiming to be a part of Detox but at the end of the day its gonna be Dre, Snoop and Eninem all over the entire album and a few bullshit guests.

Yep, he said it was old and played..and now he is trying to go back to it. He also said he was going to do a musical play. Dre lies.
-
Not gonna hold my breath on Detox. May never come.
-
There are 3 things people always say when talkin about Detox
1. Dre's a perfectionist
2. Ive heard a few records it sounds amazing!
3. Dont worry its coming
