Post by: Darkwing Duck (The Reincarnation) on August 14, 2011, 01:15:54 PM
alright, we ned a thread about em

i like the chicano-rap scene, n ive been gettin into it a bit latly.
they r really segregated, n they seem to be doin they own thing,, not givin a fuck about the outside industry.
they're pushin their own lil records, n the razas & jefes are pickin em up

as far as quality, well.. thats another thing. most of em cant rap at all,
but some of em r talented/decent

Mr Knightowl
Dido Brown
Diamonique
Sevin (christian rap)
Omar Cruz
Kid Frost
etc,,
etc

black-glove wearin dudes - Mr Capone-E and Mr criminal, not really feelin their Hi-Power-movement, but those guys r doin their thing.. great work-ethic, wit a recordlabel releasin exclusive albums by Lil Flip, MC Eiht, Bizzy bone, 40 Glocc, Bad Azz etc

and Mr Criminal is alright i guess

gimme some recomendations,

I like Slow Pain and Lighter Shades of Brown. Mr Shadow, Royal T and them used to be dope when they had a dope producer like VMF behind the boards.

I love N2Deep (first Vallejo artists to go Gold) and Baby Beesh too, but in terms of style i consider them closer to other Vallejo artists than the average chicano rapper.

I liked Woodie (RIP), Syr Dyno and the Darkroom Familia too.

I have yet to listen to a lot of chicano artists that i barely know of like CLS, Lil Rob, Mr Sancho... I heard their early music is dope.

Baby Bash is dope, he went pop wit Akon & Nate dogg-hooks on his albums.

Jerry Heller was trying to pump up Chicano rap a while back, saying it was the next big thing.

They have an active G-Funk scene, but it's 20 years too late. Sounds like a parody of what's already been done, and 99% of their shit is sounds like it's created in their bedrooms/garages. Quality tells.

Frost gets respect, was around in the west's hey-day, he knows his cruising oldie samples and is an O.G. in the game.

I would say yes. I actually put Cypress Hill and took it off because I think he is Cuban but has Mexican heritage.

This type of thread comes up about 1-3 times a year. I personally hate the term Chicano rap because there is always alot of dope MC's that get thrown in these kind of lists. For example Sick Jacken to me is a MC, B-Real: MC, Sinful- MC, I could really care less if they are Chicano or not. Most of the time when people say Chicano rap it's more of the gangsta rap stuff, which I can only listen to so much of.

I'm not talking about you, I am talking about the responses people give on average. It usually becomes a Hi-Power/Gangsta Rap filled list until Chuck and a few others come in and contribute some dope shit lol.

In my opinion i think Mr. Shadow has to be the most lyrical Chicano Rapper out there, he does disappear for a while but when he comes back he comes back with some of the dopest lyrics.  Even his first cd (Till I Die) came pretty hard when he was 16 in that time.  As a chicano i can understand the lack of professionalism some of the chicano rappers have under the rest and most of them always talk about gang banging, killing etc....but some of them out there do have some dope lyrics as well.

Other chicano rappers i will name off my head:

Surgical & Bigg Geezus - Lyrical Gangster Mixtape
Knightowl
Boogie or Boogie The Big Man
Cali Life Style (CLS)
Slow Pain
Lil Bandit
Brown Pride Riders Vol.1 - 4
Bigg Bandit
O.F.I.

Chino Brown
Spanky Loco
Cronica 2013 Vol. 1 - 3
Conejo
Clika One

Slush The Villain
Silencer
Malow Mac
Sen Dog
Sal Capone
Royal T

Ese Lil Joker
Ese Grouch
Duende
Eastside Click
Mentes Criminales (Spanish)
El Maloso (Spanish)
El Padrino "Original" (Spanish)

uuuhhhh yeah way too many to list there are a lot more and also a lot of compilation cd's that a lot of chicano rappers do together also records labels put out compilation in the name like Low Profile Records, Hi Power Ent, Underworld 805 the list goes on it seems now days theres always some new chicano rapper around the corner so good luck.

Goes over my head how no one mentions one of the most talented muthafuckas around, regardless of whether its "chicano rap" at all: Proper Dos.

These muthafuckers released quality music in the early 90's and to this day, I am amazed at the fact that no monumental label pushed them to mainstream. They had it all, real fucking lyrics, bomb sound... 8)

Do your research and learn. Consistency is what they were all about.
