Title: Part 2 Interview with Jewell now up! (AllHipHop.com)
Post by: Styles1 on August 31, 2011, 10:19:27 PM
And here's part 2!!!

AllHipHop.com: The “What Would You Do” song by The Dogg Pound, as great as it is, would not have been the same without your vocals at the end. Tell us how the recording of that part.

Jewell: Daz was working on the song in the studio. He called me and said that they needed a hook for the song. I came in there and listened to what they had. I went in to the vocal booth and laid it down. I always tell people that the music talks to me – it tells me what to write, what to sing and how to feel.

To read the rest, go here: http://www.allhiphop.com/stories/features/archive/2011/08/31/22874193.aspx

P.S. Be sure to watch the "commercial" that's a part of the interview.

Thanks... I told her earlier that she needs to release the book now and not in October... I want to know what she says (especially after watching that commercial) lol

Great interview overall.  That commercial for her book was dope.  "Foe the love of Money" came on the radio earlier today (K-Day).  I never even thought about her possibly doing vocals for that song.  It was real interesting to see who she's been in touch with over the years and for Daz and Soopafly to be there for her in such a personal way.  It was disappointing to hear about Snoop not paying her for her work on the Last Meal.  "Just Dippin" is one of my favorite Dre & Snoop collabs and the fact that it had Jewell on it just made even better.  I was hoping she would be involved on Detox (if it ever sees the light of day), but it looks like some tension could prevent that from happening.

Props Styles.

Good interview ... Her book may be interesting ... hopefully she doesn't make up too much bs (well wowen..) just because she's mad at some people for not paying her ...  " Is Dr Dre really gay" ?

AllHipHop.com: What went wrong?

Jewell: Suge is what went wrong (laughs). You don't mix the streets with music. You don't fault other people because they are from a different Coast or cultures. You don't mis-use and take advantage of your artists. Your artists are the elements that make your music company and if you damage that, you're killing your financial stability as a label. Things began to get personal with him (Suge) making threats to various artists on the East Coast. It brought all of this beef. Music is designed to enhance our lives, not to ruin it.

I don't regret my time on Death Row Records because it has made me who I am today. I just regret the way things turned out. I regret Dr. Dre not standing up after Suge left the picture, to keep the formula going by keeping everybody together. I guess he was so burned out by the situation. He went his own separate way and everybody else kind of went their own ways.
yet there's still people who act like suge is a legend :-X

i disagree about dre leaving: he did the right thing. death row was a timebomb, he left before it was too late.
i doubt he could have taken the early death row artists with him, due to legal issues. he could have kept in touch though.

AllHipHop.com: Were you under contract to Death Row Records? Or could you have left at anytime you wanted to?

Jewell: I was under contract in the beginning but it has expired. There are some contractual issues still because when Suge was in jail,  it was said to Warner Brothers that I sold my publishing – but I've never sold my publishing. I'm waiting to become more financially stable so I can go after my money. If I don't end up getting the money that was stolen from me, at least the world can know about it and the songs that I wrote. When the new company (Wide Awake) bought Death Row Records, there was a lot of different signatures on paperwork that was supposed to be my signature.

AllHipHop.com: What?

Jewell: I have never sold my publishing. I contacted Warner Brothers and said, “I didn't sign this. This is not even my signature.” They told me that I had to go after Suge Knight. They said that they have a check that I cashed and I told them that I thought it was my first installment check for my publishing. I received from David Kenner's office (Death Row Records lawyer) some publishing split sheets on the songs that Death Row at least admitted that I wrote – because on the back of some of the CD's they didn't even mention my name. They were doing crooked business. The D.O.C was on some songs that they had him as a writer but he was never even a part of. He was never even close to the studio when we did some of those songs. A lot of that paperwork was messed up. They paid who they wanted to pay and shiest whoever they wanted to shiest.
david kenner was really the devil's advocate

After Eric died, I had a discussion with his wife Tameka about the song. The song was a smash hit and I was able to track her down through someone that knew her. Tameka told me, “Why didn't you come forward sooner?” I told her that Eric was my homeboy and I didn't want to disrespect his family by bringing up money. I wanted to let them mourn. She was real anal towards me. I left it at that.
she ruined ruthless

Good interview ... Her book may be interesting ... hopefully she doesn't make up too much bs (well wowen..) just because she's mad at some people for not paying her ...  " Is Dr Dre really gay" ?
she just brought it up to try to sell her book. a stupid move that's not going to work though

like it or not Suge is a legend regardless of the dirt he did to other people and no matter how much of an asshole he actually is. he still created one of the biggest empires in hip-hop history. if people were to be stripped of their legendary status because they did other people shady there would barely be any legend at all standing lol. (no berry gordy, no dick griffey, no J. prince, no Diddy, etc.)

I can understand Dre's reasons for leaving. It's a shame that he had to give up his half of the company just to get away from Suge, though.

People hate on Suge for his "ruthless tactics" and "intimidating methods" but its them same methods that got Dre off Ruthless, and most of the deals that got done on Deathrow.

he wasn't a great CEO.

well that's enough to warrant him a legendary status in hip-hop history. legends don't have to be saints, good samaritans or even good people.

Look's like she going to be dishing some dirt with her book. Should be some chuckles.

She probably got fucked on the low too. She's basically your average american woman. Get nutted on, get fucked for money and fucked over and then become bitter, fat and write books about you claiming your gay, broke or beat her (not saying that she's done it but i wouldn't be shocked if she did).

Dunno if you asked this during the interview Styles, but the album that WideAwake is putting out, is that the "Black Diamond" record that she said was completed or is it going to be a compilation of songs done while on the label?
