I've only heard Section .80, best album this year, but I haven't heard anything else from this guy. How would rank all his albums?
also, is the production style similar on past works?
-
THe production on "The Kendrick Lamar EP" and "Overly Dedicated" are similar but prior to that, his style and beats were different. A lot of rapping over other peoples' beats. Personally, I liked "C4" but a lot of people hated it because he used "Tha Carter III" beats, I believe. "Training Day" is pretty dope.

1. Overly Dedicated
2. Kendrick Lamar EP
3. Section 80
He seems to be getting more experimental. And more influenced by Kanye West.
-
so is section 80 the only album with original beats?
-
The other two I mentioned are original beats

I got Section. 80 off i-tunes last night, album is crazy. I was going to ask the same thing if his other albums were as good. Thanks for the info.

yea people have their own opinions, but it just bothers me how he gets so little recognition on here, and when we do try to , people say he doesn't deserve it.
ab soul sings a couple of hooks if i remember correctly
-
"Top Dawg, Under Dawg" is probably my favourite Ab Soul track, he just going all out on that one

yea its a good listen, but the 2nd golden age of hip hop (90s) just set the bar too high for the west. they need style (swagger) and they need the beats. no knock on soul, do what you do, and he does it good, but hes no anchor.
i mean no doubt an artist can come up without having superb lyrical skill, but their style and choice of beats need to be more profound. i mean to be accepted into mainstream or at least compete with mainstream hiphop.
all the west needs to do is make good music, quality over quantity, i mean especially the old school guys, a good example is daz, y not take an year to make an album than a month?
i mean yea he needs paper, but I'm sure he has another source of income rather than his music. make quality shit, and fans would no doubt buy.
now that i have some n's to spend I'm going to collect all of the west coast legends discography, and u from the dubb u know west coast discography,
I'm going to get all the classics, and have some sort of collage, ebay, through retail stores or what not, record stores are a dying breed, just like video rental stores.
