It's due Monday, for English. The paper has to be on a real life recluse, who has been deproved of society, neglected or abused. An example that I can't use is Paul Dashwer, who lived in his attic for decades in Maryland till police found him in '81.
I have to compare someone like that to a character in the novel I'm reading, "To Kill A Mockingbird."
Any ideas or people who have disapeared from society and lived in secretsy? Any artists you can think of. I can't really think of people.
If you have any ideads, post them now.

Ah good one. My teacher never said it couldn't be a symbol.

Dammit, I'd really want to use this idea, put I just read the outline for the project...
'Compare the real individual's physical/emotiona/development to Boo's'
'You might also want to look into some psychology texts for insights into problems that the abused and or neglected have'
'When do we have the right to intefere with someone's choice to live as a recluse?'
Those questions might make this a hard paper. What do you think?

You could George Harrison, RIP. For 15 years before he died, he was rarely seen in public.
Steve McQueen at points in time.

Could you talk for about him? I don't know much about him, and when he was in hiding.
Can you just give me a brief overview of when he was a recluse?
-
McQueen was a recluse in the late 70s, after the divorce, etc...When he was fat, and not starring in musicals.
His main reasons were bitterness towards to the Hollywood establishment.

I've started the paper, why did he feel bitterness towards Hollywood?

Steve McQueen was considered by many the greatest actor of his time. He starred in
many classic films such as, The Great Escape, The Sand Pebbles, Bullitt and The Getaway
to name a few. For years he was on top of the world and everyone wanted to be like
Steve McQueen. Though the fame and fortune came at a price for McQueen, as he would
hit a dead end in the 1970s.
In the prime of his acting career, McQueen was happily married, and had children
as he lived the lavish lifestyle as the most emulated actor in Hollywood. It would turn out
lonely at the top for McQueen, as his world would come crashing down in the 1970s.
McQueen would begin his recluse lifestyle after divorcing his wife and quit acting
because of bitterness towards the Hollywood industry. He would gain a lot of weight and
hide away from the Hollywood lime light that he once owned. McQueen led a troubled
life, as it would date back to his days as a child where his father abandoned him 6 months
after birth. Until the day he died, McQueen never knew who his father was. As a kid,
McQueen said he was always alone, and had no one to talk to. He grew up around gangs
for support.
When Steve McQueen shied away from the public in the 70s, he was much like
Boo Radley was in To Kill A Mockingbird. Like Scout asked one time about him, why
doesn’t Boo Radley just run away? Jem responded with saying, maybe he doesn’t have
anywhere to tun off to. Boo Radley was isolated in his own home, probably because he
didn’t like how society was. Steve McQueen was isolated too, after having everything, he
threw everything out. He didn’t want anything to do with the Hollywood establishment,
much like Boo didn’t want anything to do with the outside world.
I think the reason for McQueen’s emotional breakdown was due in-part to his
troubled past. He didn’t lead the normal life of a child; McQueen grew up without a
father figure in his life for guidance. All this I think led to what happened to him in the
70s, he had no one to turn to once again. His wife left him, and he was out of an acting at
the time.
We have no right to interfere with someone choosing to lead their lives as a
recluse. As long as the person doesn’t harm others, it is their choice. It think it’s
perfectly safe for someone like Paul Dashwer to live up in his attic for years, he wasn’t
disturbing anyone. I think many artists, actors or musicians who become recluse’s use that
period in their lives as a‘rehibilitation’ point, where they re-group and re-think about who
they are. Then after that people come out strong, and better than ever.
How's that?

Mac retired from acting because his dad was his manager, and he hadn't seen any of the money... they were giving him like 10 bucks a week... So, he divorced his parents, and won his money back in court, it's like 50 million dollars, or something. he got married when he was about 14-16 (not sure), then seperated from the girl, finally mike talked him into getting back into work, and he acted on broadway this year. I don't think he's doing any more movies anytime soon though, but he's basically a recluse, never in public, never working, just stays home and plays video games.

Macaulay Culkin got marrie not too far from where I live. I think he still lives in CT.
