Yeah, but I think he's highlighting the dramatic drop-off (as opposed to a gradual tapering off) which probably suggests his label is the one buying the records to begin with, not the general public.

Yeah, but a dramatic drop off really isn't that rare now

why is it always the label? do you see some of these nerdy ass fans, especially the ones with chipper jones, they go out and buy 20 copies in shit, and they get they other friends to do it first week, plus the nerds banded together to make this "they" rapper of the moment. these are the kids and younger brothers and younger cousins of the same nerds who felt "hard" cause they bought a west coast album in the 90's, dorks 2.0 yell

It's pretty standard these days
-
Lol, no label buying copies. He sold what he sold. Great first week #s.
-
Doesn't iTunes have a pre-order thing where you get the album as soon as you login after it's been released? Many fans probably use that which explains high sales directly after the release.

yeah but most rap fans go out and buy the actual physical copy of the CD compared to pop acts which get huge downloads

I mean, everybody claims Jay-Z buys his own albums. Why wouldn't Jay-Z buy his new artists album to make him look better?

I was about to say this lol but honestly these #s were real I bet cuz I see all over Facebook/Twitter he's got fans taking pics with the album and what not

The same reason he never made a video for Renegade. He only wants himself to look good. Renegade as a single with a high budget video (videos were still a big deal back then) would have doubled to tripled the sales of Blueprint, but it also would have made Jay Z look like the second best rapper on his own album.

BUYING YOUR OWN ALBUM DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE

True story
-
People act like this doesn't happen with every rapper out these days? Commercial or Underground. Game is struggling to stay on the charts and Evidence went AWOL after 1 week.
-
lol at people thinking labels are buying their own shit. so a label would spend more money then their getting to boost the numbers? y´all motherfuckers are retarded if you believe that shit. let´s spend 15 bucks when we´re only making 8 bucks of each cd, yeah right.....
-
I brought up buying your own albums. However, all I pointed out was people have been saying for years that Jay has been buying his own albums. Logically those same people would have to believe Jay buys his artists albums.
However, like ABN mathematically explained above, it just doesn't make sense to buy your own albums lol.

Not true at all. Rap fans dont buy shit.
-
Copped my copy today 8)

Why is it hard to believe? These labels know peer pressure works and that if enough people say its hot other mufuccas who disagree will eventually give in in order to not look like outcasts or weirdos. I seen Lil Wayne go from bein nothin to hailed as the greatest rapper on earth with this shit right here. Its brainwashing.
-
j cole has a big fan base. Not hard to believe they all went out and supported his album in the first week.

Or maybe its because Girls, Girls, Girls, H.O.V.A and the other singles all had a less dark and more radio friendly sound. Therefore he made video for the songs that would work as chart singles.
-
Uhhh what about song cry then? Lol

Uhhh what about song cry then? Lol
what about it? That song has a very mainstream chorus sample that works on the radio as its accessible. If anything you've just proved the point even further.
