Title: Fucking obviously Top Rank don't wanna see Pac fight Mayweather
Post by: Javier on November 13, 2011, 02:18:35 AM
Tonight's fight completely cements the theory that Arum did NOT want to see his big time fighter face Mayweather.  Floyd afraid of that piece of shit?  Get the fuck out of here.

I'm talking about his skills.  They're clearly a joke.  He got exposed by a 38 year old boxer fighting in his 2nd fight at Welterweight.  Again, people think Mayweather is afriad of his lack of skills?  Please!  People need to finally start talking shit about Arum, and realize he's the one that doesn't want Mayweather for Pac.

he did bad in 1 fight so he has no skills? any man who beats Hatton in 2 rounds isnt a scrub. I know Mayweather is hip hops choice cuz he is black and cocky and 50 cents homie but can we please get people who respect the sport of boxing? Tyson lost fights does he suck? Ali did does he suck? 06-09 is an undeniable reign of greatness by him. Mayweather dominated from 98-07. No one here talks about boxers that arent manny or floyd.. Sergio Martínez is the #1 boxer in the world IMO but i don't think i've ever heard anybody talk about him. If i mentioned Glen Johnson or even fucking Felix Trinidad people would be clueless.

Pacman probably wouldn't throw a cheap shot when he didn't need to.

If Mayweather and Pacman ever do fight I know who I want to see get knocked out.

Hatton was a brawler who was already done, anyone who followed the build up to the Mayweather fight knows how much he truly believed he would win that fight and instead he got schooled on the biggest stage, the Pacman fight was summed up by the awful camp whereby he was meant to have become a better boxer instead he came out the same old brawler looking for a knockout and he got schooled again. Could've named somebody better

Did you watch him fight in before Mayweather? the amazing year he had in 05?  :o

45-2...so manny had 1 of his 2 losses and did it in 1/5 the time it took Floyd. he murdered Kostya Tszyu...I really think if i dont say Money Mayweather you guys will think the fighter is a scrub.

Boxing is dead. an undefeated record shouldnt happen. It would never happen in MMA because they give the fans the best fight they can. there isnt 23215321 different championship belts.

I've got to see Anderson Silva face top fighters like Leben, Franklin, Marquardt, Henderson, Leites (Who should still be in the UFC bullshit release), Griffin, Maia, Sonnen, Belfort & Okami. these are #1 contenders not a replacement cuz 2 fighters didnt want to have a scratch on their record. Dana White would take away the belt if they refused the fight. Boxing doesnt care about its fans. It is sad, i have loved boxing for a long time but the way they treat their fans is ridic.

I don't know. With the exception of Marquez, Pacquiao has done better with opponents that Mayweather has fought as well. I think Pacquiao is finally wearing down a lil bit. He has been in more wars than Mayweather, that's for sure. Mayweather is notorious for fighting people when they're no longer in their prime. I think last night's fight brings the chance of the mega fight happening becoming better than ever.

And rayallen is on point: politics and not giving fans what the want is why boxing has been suffering lately. However, to call it dead is ridiculous. It's not dead, it is in a dark age though. Lack of solid feuds, lack of exciting new talent and politics is what's hurting it. The talent issue should improve in time (particularly in the heavyweight division). The fact that everyone seems to be a champion is an issue as well since it diminishes the importance of being a champion.

I'm a fan of both MMA and boxing. Both are unique art forms in their own right. It's kind of annoying when people try and compare the two and say one is better than the other. They both have their pros and cons.

I'm a boxing fan but it is losing alot of its fan base to MMA because people are tired of paying $70 and only seeing one fight they care about. I am in no way saying you can't watch both I'm just saying people are strictly watching MMA now because of how people like Dana treats his fans.

That's exactly right, he has no boxing skills.  This is the first time he faces an opponent with actual good movement since the 2nd Marquez fight.  Not somebody that sits back in his defensive shell like Clottey, no footwork like who just came off a war with Margarito like Cotto, a stand still brawler like Margarito an already exposed Hatton, or a drained De La Hoya at 147 (weight that he hasn't been at since 2001).  I give him props for Diaz and Mosley(even though Mosley didn't really move like he always does) though.  Pac would have been exposed a long time ago by Mayweather, if Top Rank wasn't protecting him.

You can't compare boxing and mma. But you can compare the way they are being presented to the fans. And in that regard the UFC blows any boxing event out of the water. The best fights possible are constantly being set up. And they are usually surrounded by solid cards. We don't have to wonder for years who the best fighter in a division is. Its the person holding the only belt that matters. And if not, its the person about to take it from them.

This is true. The under card is usually a disaster for boxing events. The only decent undercard bout for Pacquiao/Marquez was the second fight with Alvarado fighting that Colombian dude with the jeri curl. Alvarado was getting shit on untilhis lip exploded and then he finally started whoopin ass.

Anybody got a feeling that UFC could be shooting itself int he foot by having so many events almost every week? They're gonna run outta match ups a few years down the road potentially. Then again, they have a monopoly on MMA and can bring any talent in (i.e. Overeem, Diaz brothers, etc.)

I think its oversaturation at this point. I watch the fights every week, but I'm way less excited for an individual event, compared to how I would be if I had to wait a while to watch one.

at this point, who gives a shit? boxing is so fixed nowadays, that records don't even matter.. i guess it's always been like this, but it seems 2 be getting more obvious.

I get that Arum thinks Pac is unlikely to beat Floyd. But this is no essential argument to not have the fight... Pac already has quite a few losses and draws, his record won't be ruined by a loss to the greatest. Also, there's MUCH MUCH more money to be made in a Vegas fight against a polarizing American superstar than there is to be made against some 38-year-old Mexican with 5 losses. It makes no sense to avoid the fight, even if everybody at TopRank assumes that Pac can't win it.

Top Rank wanted to squeeze as much money as they possibly can out of Pacquiao before they send him out to face Floyd.  Both Mosley and Marquez had to leave their promotion in order to join Top Rank to fight Pacquiao.  Trust me, if Mayweather would have beaten Pac a year or maybe even two back, Pacquiao wouldn't have been the same mega star that he is today.

This topic was made before Bob Arum and Top Rank made this announcement that they rather seek a 4th fight with Marquez before Floyd, because Floyd will still be there after their fourth fight.  Shit, I bet if Marquez isn't down they will still go for Bradley first before Mayweather.  It's what I've been saying all along on these boards, but nobody believed me.

Better fight for Floyd at this point are Martinez at 154/160, Canelo at 160, or Khan at 147. Top Rank should just stop worrying about a potential loss and get it on with Floyd.

It's quite criminal to force niggas to sign with the promotion of the champion to get a fight just so that TopRank can milk 2 boxers within the very same fight.  :o
Why are some superstars such puppets though? If I was one of the most famous athletes in the world, I wouldn't give a shit about what some old man says. Fuck outta here with that "ask my promoter" shit.

Can Floyd still smash niggas faces in at 160? Seems a bit much to me. He looks better at 147 than he does at 154 IMO. A defense first point win against a slower, bigger opponent is not that good looking to begin with. Fighting a bigger opponent only looks great when you are active and able to dominate him, like Pacman did with sorry ass Margarito.

Well in the cases with Marquez, he's not a big time draw.  So 2 million is good for him.  His only PPV bouts has been with Pacquiao, Diaz II, and Mayweather.  He left Golden Boy, because Top Rank wouldn't co promote the fight with Golden Boy.  Same thing with Mosley.

I think Floyd has the potential to look impressive at 160 against Martinez and Canelo.  But really, I guess since it's late in his career already he will only go up to 154.  Canelo can make this weight still, and that's where Martinez is comfortable.

I'm a huge Martinez fan, that would be awesome either way for me.  Martinez is the one with the most legit shot to beat Mayweather.  I'd be happy for either fighter because a victory over the other would really cement their legacy.
