hey guys, i have a question.

what exactly is BRI supposed to mean. like, when it is reduced from 57% to 50%, in what way does that affect gilbert arenas? the contracts can't be directly related to it, as the contracts are pretty random and sure as hell not exactly at 57% of BRI in total or something.

it means how much income is split between the players and owners...right now, the owners get 43% of the income and the players get 57%. now, the owners are seeking more income, hence the BRI being the biggest conflict of the lockout. it doesnt affect Gilbert Arena's current contract, but it means that NBA players would be making less than they are now under a lower BRI (on any future contract).

but wouldn't this mean that all nba contracts combined would amount to exactly 57,0% right now or something? obviously not possible for various reasons. I get that players would get less money, I just don't see how exactly it would manifest in real life. if an owner is eligible to give player X a contract for X dollars on X years, that's what happens.. don't see how BRI gets factored into this equation. never saw it explained in detail.

^I think lowering it from 57% to let's say 50% lowers the salary cap. So I don't know what the cap was. Let's make up a number & say 50,000,000 a season under 57%. Under 50% the cap would be 43,000,000. Therefore lowering contracts owners can give to players so they can stay under the cap. It's all greed by billionaires wanting more money from millionaires & us middle-class people just don't get what we want lol.

Don't quote me though lol.

They really blew it too, cause there was a lot of interest in last year's playoffs and story lines to follow this season. What's gonna happen with the Heat, were the Veteran Mavs a fluke, will LA be able to recover with a new coach after getting there asses handed to them, etc. Now it's looking like it's all going down the shitter, can't say I'm losing sleep over it though.

u gotta give it up to the older players, instead of collecting their accolades and wasting another year of playing, they rather help the youngstas futures.

u know damn well kobe, KG, ray allen, PP, duncan, giniboili,  j rich, bill ups and anyone else over 30 isn't tryna waste a season.

I'm pretty upset as a laker fan to see kobe waste a season if a whole season is canceled.

but imo if its shortened it'll be great for kobe, it'll be easy pickings and less mileage on the legs

My thing is, if they can't come to an agreement now & the owners already said if they players don't take 50/50 now, they'll never get it again or some shit, when will they ever come to terms?

Theoretically, couldn't the NBA be over for good?

^in that case, some1 else will just start their own league, and all the stars will join there...theres been talks of that already. most likely wont happen, but thats what COULD happen if they cant come to terms.

would you throw hundreds of billions of dollars away?

it won't be over for good, but the players since decertifying most definitely  hold up their word and last till the owners finally say fuck it.

for the players its individual salaries, for owners its a business, and that business with the losses already have to spend years making up for it.

and the owners gave notion back in 07 or 08 about the lockout, so players should of saved up money, invested, or found some other sort of revenue. if not they've been told and its their loss.

By losing the whole season both sides lose more money and respect than they would have by agreeing to a bad, one-sided deal. Sooner or later enough significant people will realize this.

personally, i wouldnt....i never really hear people questioning duncan/robinson's titles due to a shortened season. a ring is a ring....kobe will get questioned even if he wins 10 in a row.

I hope this causes the league to make some major changes. The fact alone that the NBA moved a team from the 17th biggest market to the 41st so David Stern could give his friend a basketball team shows how HORRIBLY run the league really is.

of course, it's a shortened season...but nobody discredits it. they still have to go through the same competition, just with less regular season games. might make it even MORE difficult, since they have to cram so many games into so little days.
