Title: The Dogg Pound - Cali iz Active
Post by: doublee313 on November 24, 2011, 04:09:05 PM
What do you guys think about this album?

Personally, I think it had a lot of potental with the budget Snoop put into it, however I just can't keep it in roataion.  Maybe all the different producers didn't mix up right, or something.  This could have been something good, but I think Snoop isn't the best at pointing an album together.

You don't hear to much about his album, so I'm just curious what you guys think about it (please try to keep this post on topic guys).

You really consider it to be better than "Dogg Food"?

I liked the title track but aside from that pretty weak album. The whole thing sounded forced and Daz completely outrapped Kurupt, and when that happens you know things are bad. Definitely one of the top two worst DPG albums I've heard (haven't heard any since Dogg Chit).

"Dogg Food" is Dogg Pound's best album, the other albums don't even come close to it. "Dillinger & Young Gotti" is their 2nd best album in my opinion and "D&YG2: The Saga Continuez" is really good too, but lyrically it doesn't come close to the first one. "Cali Iz Active" could've been great, if they kept it strictly West Coast. After hearin' the first single and the title of the album, i thought it would be somethin' special.

this. the album has a few gems though, I love Kushn & Pushn & the title track. but overall i was disappointed.

i was really hyped when this album was in talks and when I heard who would be participating and all. when it finally dropped i was mad disappointed. even though there were some of the best west coast producers affiliated, I thought the album sounded really boring and uninspired. Another fact was Kurupt's weakest appearence as a rapper on a dpg album to date and a lot of lame hooks. Also features like Ice Cube or Nate Dogg were either just sampled hooks or background ad-libs which I found hella misleading. There are still some good songs on it, I like espcially like "Throwin Up Da C", "Faknass Hoes" and Rage kills "Keep It Gangsta".
To me, "Dogg Chit" is the best dpg record since "Dogg Food", this album banged!

Yeah I'm not sure if Nates contract at Electra meant he couldnt do hooks for the album so he did 'oooohweeeeeees' instead.

Got mad love for dogg chit but wouldn't say it's close to 2nd best. Maybe joint 3rd though I guess! Bonus track version of Dogg Chit is the one to own - Blast On Em is a firecracker!!

It was a wack album and the album I finally accepted that dpg were finished and up washed. Such a disappointment.

I agree with DAZ outrapping Kurupt.  That is very noticeable.  Nice sounding album, however I just think Snoop had to much control and he's known for not being consistent.  This was so exciting to hear that we had a DPG album with a budget, and Snoop brought on Puffy (as mentioned above), David Banner.  He should have stuck to the script and kept it strictly westcoast and gave Daz and Kurupt (with a little training) more lyrics (Like on Dogg Food).

Also, my favorites are:  Dogg Food (of course), D&YG, D&YGII, Dogg Shit (half of it solid), 100 Wayz (pretty good, like the g-funk tracks toward the end).

"Cali iz active" was funky as hell....."Dogg Food" was great, "Lets play house" "New york, New york" is two of the greatest songs dpg ever made, but in my opinion the whole cali iz active album was good, i liked almost every song in it, and i never do...Usually just like 1 or 2 songs, the cali iz active single was off tha hook and they had fun with it, BUT your right i can't hate on "Dogg Food" who can? legendary album by dpg, and probably the best album indeed.......

Cali iz Active is the 2nd best DPG album.

Some classic cuts on it:

1. Hard on a Hoe
2. Cali iz Active
3. Kush'n'Pushin
4. Throw'n Up Da C
5. Sittin on 23z

Well I don't know but Nate had done hooks for many other records in that year, so I don't know why he couldn't do for this one. Plus I'm not sure if Elektra was still in charge of him. And I agree on the bonus version statement, it's def worth it. What would your 2nd best be then? Between Dogg Chit and Cali Iz Active it's an easy choice for me: DC >>> CIA

Plus I don't know, why the video version of the title track hasn't been released unedited, because it's a lot better than the album version imo.

Keep It Gangsta is one of the best DPG tracks in the last 10 years or so despite Kurupt's so-so lyrics even though he killed the delivery 8)

overall not a big fan of the album since most of the tracks seemed like they were trying to get back to mainstream sucess and it kinda backfired

Vibe With A Pimp off Dogg Chit deserved to do well...really radio friendly feel.

Had massive potential and some really good tracks but why they decided to put crap on there like that david banner track, the paul wall track and the last song was really weak also. Yeah a shame that Alchemist track got left off if i recal they couldnt clear a sample or something and yes Nate should've been more included.

Yeah I think the OG version would have been dope as fuck. The tracks that were either left off or bonus tracks. Alot of sample clearance issues with that album.

"Cruisin In My 64", "Make It Happen" and "Do What U Wanna" were better than the songs on the album. I still bump those three songs.

Yeah, funny how Cruzin was the best of those sessions...and it didn't make the album.

I have the OG version with the samples from Alchemist.  I believe DUBCNN actually put it up for free back on the site when the album came out.  It's a good song.
