I need to edit an mp3 and split it into a few seperate tracks. Can anyone give me some advice on how to do this?
Thanks.

you need to encode the mp3 to wave format
use a wave editor
such as the one from windows
or from your sound card
you can edit your audio there
and encode it back to mp3 then !!!

I recommend downloading Cool Edit Pro from Kazaa. You can do anything with that program.

So, what you're saying is, you can put your thing down, flip it and reverse it?

I use SonicFoundry Sound Forge 6.0
You don't even need to convert to wav
Its really professional but quite easy to use
Lotsa effects and options.
