Title: how to fix the NBA
Post by: rayallen0 on December 15, 2011, 10:18:35 PM
Get Rid of the Guaranteed Money
One of the things that keeps the NFL so competitive is the fact that players know their money could be gone within a moment’s notice. Who cares if you are an All-Pro running back or a standout defensive end…if you don’t perform your contract is gone and your spot is given to somebody who wants it. Sure, there is guaranteed money in many of the contracts that we see today, and sure we see those “stars” (Randy Moss) who could put forth a better effort, but most players work their butts off to keep their spot. You don’t see that with many of the NBA stars due to the fact that all their money is guaranteed. So it doesn’t matter if you go on the injured list every year or you’re another Gilbert Arenas who signs a big deal and goes off the deep end. Your money will still make it to your bank account.

Less Games Equal More Action
Football is really the only sport that has the perfect amount of games. Each team gets to see the teams in their division two times, as well as the chance to play a few other teams that will add to the excitement of the season. For the rest of sport, there are far too many games. Baseball is by far the worst, sitting at a pointless 162 games, and basketball isn’t too far behind, packing 82 games into their season. If you want more excitement, more drama (the good kind), and more of an “every game counts” mentality…then you need to cut the season down by at least 12 games. Make it 70 games which cuts your season by 2-3 weeks.

David Stern Needs to Retire
While baseball struggled through the steroid era, and NFL transitioned into Goodell’s No Fun League, basketball always had David Stern to count on.  However, over the last 5 years or so Stern has shown us time and time again just how much better off the NBA would be without him. It started with the Sonics move to OKC. That had shady written all over it. Since then, Stern has made a few other key decisions and moves that leave many NBA fans scratching their head. Recently, Stern played GM and vetoed a trade that would have sent Chris Paul to the Lakers in a three team deal (Hornets, Rockets and Lakers).  The deal would have actually benefited the Hornets. Instead Stern did what many have praised him for never doing early in his career, giving in to ownership. A few owners griped and complained and he caved.

David Stern has lost what any good commissioner needs, a backbone. That one choice took all the power away from the Hornets. It made them a joke. This is exactly why the NBA should not control one of their own teams. They cannot act in the best interest of that team with all the politics being played. That move also showed ownership that if they throw up their hands enough, if they whine and complain, they will get their way somehow. Stern is the Bret Favre of basketball right now. Stern had a good run, he gave us some memorable moments and should be commended for his accomplishments. His final years however have been marked with more drama and turmoil then I can remember; it’s best he hangs it up and lets the NBA move in a new direction, a direction free from his control.

Add better owners to the list ... they are complaining about competitive balance the next thing you know is they're still giving these ridiculous contracts , Thornton 33 M/4 years , Nene 67 M/5 years , De Andre Jordan 43 M/4 years , Kwame Brown 8 M/1 year ect

The only reason the Hornets mateter to him is PR because NO had to go through Hurricane Katrina. He helped Bennett run the Sonics out of town. The man is truly an evil piece of shit.

Stern said he will retire in 6 years ... basically just before both the players and owners can ask for the negociation of a new CBA ...
