I almost forgot how good this album is. Solid all the way through. King Tee is the most underrated west rapper IMO. And the producer lineup is just crazy. Dr. Dre, DJ Battlecat, DJ Quik, Fredwreck. This is one of my favorite albums i just had to make a thread about it. What ya think about it ?
-
on of my favorite west coast albums. too bad aftermath didn't release it officially.
-
I really don't understand why Aftermath didn't release this. Classic IMO.

a dream team of producers all in their prime... and King Tookie got a rhyme and flow style that has always been ahead of its time...easily the best Aftermath release ever...too bad it never got officially released by Aftermath...im glad we did finally get to hear it...

For those who might not have seen or heard it...
King Tee feat Dr Dre "Got It Locked"
This is the one & only video from OG King Tee's Aftermath Entertainment never-released debut album, "Thy Kingdom Come".
Produced by Dr Dre.

because once the hype of eminem came on. jimmy and dre put king t on the back burner.
-
West coast classic! One of favourite ever albums. Sick Dre beats, crazy quik beat and some insane budda beats (That's Drama/Shake da spot :o) With Cali's best ever mc the King rhyming his ass off! Fuck the source and interscope for stopping this album from being released properly!
-
one of the dopest albums Aftermath has put out imo. I was lucky enough to get a copy of some bootleg, unofficial copy at my local CD store.

Dope. Wasn't that used for the "Got It Locked" single too though?

Might've been but its from the guy who made the Chronic 2001 cover.

I copped the first 3 singles they dropped on record only and was cheesed waiting on it. The like 4 years later I found the cd in music world so I picked it up and was loving it. The one with the pimped out turkey on cover.

Fukk the Source for giving this 3.5 mics.. thats what stopped Dre from releasing it.. had nothing to do with Eminem. he came out a year later.. this album was supposed to drop in 1998..
-
Another reason to say fuck the Source. Dope album, waiting on my hard copy to arrive

I really don't understand why Aftermath didn't release this. Classic IMO.
some say its due to the source review.
the sales of the firm & the aftermath compilation probably got something to do with it as well, i doubt interscope was really believing in King T's project.
dre didn't really push king t anyway, other than featuring him on the aftermath compilation.

with one of the album covers that was posted on here several times before?

That's also what I was thinking: Dre probably didn't believe in this project that much or otherwise he woulda went for it & promoted it properly, & said "Fuck the Sauce".
-
I still need to hear this album, I've heard a few tracks but not all of it in its entirety.
-
it's good but i prefer the hittman unreleased album to this 8)

nah.... dude had an interview in the source and a few ads. king t's album was on it's way to being released until the hype of emimem came. as far as the sale from the firm and the aftermath comp they both went platinum so i don't see what the big deal was.
-
"stay down" one of the rare songs that i know its lyrics from start to end... good story telling, damn beautiful chorus, budda on the beat man, violins are crazy!!!
"lets make a v" maybe on of the best dj quik beats ever! this should win the grammy man!
"where is t" a legendary collabo from king t and dr. dre...
"step on by" best rnb beat dre ever made...
-
Had a very strong presence of West Coast rappers and producers.
Even Kool G Rap joined the party, coz ain't no party like a west coast party coz A west coast party don't stop etc...
Needed a few finishing touches from Dr Dre, but Marshal Mather's came along and Jimmy shelved KT's Aftermath debut album.

well platinum isn't bad, but like dre says on his song, it was considered a flop. they thought he fell off.
im quite sure that + the review were some of the main reasons king t got shelved.

at that time niggas like w.c. was going gold wit the shadiest one so a king t album being linked to dr. dre woulda been atleast gold or platinum in 98. reviews don't matter. it's up to you to listen to see if you like some shit. shit i remember the source givin' safe & sound 3 mics and that shit still went gold.
-
I downloaded this and listened to it in full - it's actually a lot better than I expected, give or take a couple of tracks. You can see why Biggie stated that King T was his favourite rapper.
I'm not sure if it would have sold that well had it been released because it doesn't seem to have a commercial draw, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
It's also interesting to hear these Dr. Dre beats for the first time, a lot of them sound like they could have been used for his Chronic II album.

I remember HEAVILY anticipating this album in the Summer of 98'. No Limit had taken over rap music and I was desperate for Dr. Dre to comeback and change the game once more. This album was being promoted all summer long in 1998. I remember seeing the video on BET for "Got It Locked", shit sounded dope, and I had no doubts the album would be a West Coast classic.
King Tee and Dr. Dre were even on RapCity with Leslie (that thickass, fine woman that used to host RapCity when Jo Clair wasn't there), they were out at Dre's mansion on his golf course. I still remember Dre hitting a bad shot and saying something like, "Golf became a wack game for me when I realized I wasn't any good at it". Leslie asked King Tee what he hoped to achieve with this album and he said he just wanted a gold record, something to show his kids someday to prove he did something in this game!
Then there was even a full page Ad in the Source that summer that said, King Tee, Thy Kingdome Come In Stores Now. I remember driving up to blockbuster music to look for it and not seeing it, and I showed the Ad to the sales clerk and they told me it wasn't there and I said "it has to be here, see, the ad says IN STORES NOW, lol".
Funny shit from back in the day. I don't really think it was because of Eminem this album wasn't released, but who knows. I always wondered why it wasn't released, it would be a good question to ask Dre or King Tee. See Eminem was also signed to Aftermath in the Summer of 98' and I remember at the end of that summer seeing him in the About To Blow section of Blaze Magazine.
...ahhh the good old days!

cool album.
"6 N 'Na Moe'nin" was my favorite. very cinematic. beats "Zoom Zoom" by a long shot imo
for some reason it reminds me of the movie "Natural Born Killaz" lol
-
I remember when I saw Got it Locked video on Yo MTV raps back in 98 and I thought it was dope as fuck! I was always on the look out for that album ever since I saw the video and I remember years later at the music store seeing it but it was on the independent label as DAZ or something like that it wasn't the turkey cover
-
Does anyone know which half got released, the old or new testament? Or a mix of both?
-
^the only tracks that didnt make the release were "Got It Locked", "That's Drama" and "The Future"
