Title: Masta Ace Appreciation Thread
Post by: TraceOneInfinite Flat Earther 96' on January 30, 2012, 01:11:26 PM
Anybody know what this dude is up to these days.  He's one of the coolest cats ever to bless the mic.

Those two albums Slaughterhouse and especially INC Ride were classics that you can play from beggining to end without skipping.  He's a rapper similar to Nas who can be very intelligent and thoughtful on the mic yet highly entertaining at the same time.  You can ride out to his shit, get smoked out to it.  It's kind of hype shit so it plays better in good times then in bad, but dope nonetheless.  The albums were concept albums.  The Slaughterhouse album lead to a memorable beef with Westside Connection, and the INC Ride album had a concept of linking the East and the West.  So I think these are both important albums in the East/West beef/era.

He also is an O.G. in the game and had classic material as far back as the 80's and early 90's, and alot of headz really enjoyed the records he put out later in his career as well.

For a nicca like that rapping is like breathing.  I don't think he will ever completely hang the mic up.  The only problem with that is that he seemed to struggle more with the more "adult" and "emotional" subject matter he tried to hit on with Disposable Arts.  Ace was at his best when he was young and out in the streets.

Actually never checked out Long Hot Summer.  I'm happy you liked Disposable Arts but I didn't really get into that one much either.

Masta Ace is one of my favorite rappers and Disposable Arts and A long hot summer are person classics.  A little surprised you like his older stuff over his newer stuff.  You should also check out his group eMc's album, the show, if you can find it.

I am surprised that Take a Look Around has not been mentioned yet.

The spite throughout Slaughtahouse was more meaningful given that it was following an intellectual album that did not receive the praise that it deserved.
