i hate skits. useless inserts that kill the flow of the album. some albums have way too much skits, i.e. this is the shack.

I disagree. Skits that lead on to songs like the W-Ballz skits and those on Liquid Swords give the album a more entertaining feel. The ones on 3 Feet High, for example, are just as much a part of the album as the songs themselves.
One I've always liked is Transmitting Live from Mars because of how absurd it is, and also the one on The Last Meal with the pimp-sounding guy leading off a list of Snoop's charges which then leads into the song Issues.

i hate skits. useless inserts that kill the flow of the album. some albums have way too much skits, i.e. this is the shack.
LOL.. word... I was thinking the same thing. I bumped Dove Shack "This Is The Shack" from beginning to end the other night, and the skits on that album are just awful. The music is good, but the skits are the worst I've ever heard on an album. It certainly diminishes the quality and integrity of the album as a whole. I'm surprised Warren G allowed them to fuck it up like that.

Youre both right that album had some fucked up skits. Used correctly though skits can really tie an album together thematically. Death Certificate had a load of skits that only served to enhance the album as a whole

But if you have to many it just interrupts the albums flow. for an album with let's say 14 songs then 2 or 3 is okay. Longer albums 4 maybe 5 but thats it. Of course it all depends on how long the skits are also. One reason i don't bump dogg food is becuase of all the skits thats tied in with the songs. because of that, I can't unmark them in Itunes. It's fucking annoying!! Some rappers just don't have a clue to put the skits in the right place.

I agree.. but when it comes to any Death Row albums from 92 up until that Dogg Pound album I would say all the skits were dope. Then some of them starting getting wack after that. Like Snoop's skits are Doggfather were pretty weak, and the opening to Daz's Revenge Retaliation Get Back album was totally uncreative and just wasted time leading up into what was otherwise a dope song and dope album.

i always liked 'brainz' on x raided's xorcist. its just taken from a movie but its cool, it fits the theme and its short enough to listn to

warren g wasn't involved in the creation of this is the shack... he just produced the title track for his own album and they re-used it.
but yeah skits can be dope and funny, and i'm amazed how usually some lowbrow/dumb rappers have sometimes hilarious skits. i prefer the skits on separate tracks, too. i hate tracks that have long intros like big's sky's the limit.

I lost the case to the album, but from what I remember the album was out on Warren G's label- G Funk Records, with the parent company being Def Jam.
I thought he produced like half the album and executive produced the whole album. I thought the Dove Shack were signed to a deal with him the same way the Twinz were for their Conversation album. No?

they were on his g-funk records i think but he wasn't involved in the album at all, i dont think he is even credited as executive producer and only produced this is the shack which was originally on his solo album. most of the production is handled by Keith "Clizark" Kent, DJ Enuf, Crazy C, the Dove Shack themselves and Jam Master Jay... the album was released the same day as The Twinz album and it's clear the latter was Warren G's priority since he produced the whole thing (except 4 eyez 2 headz produced by Soopafly)

I always loved the "Gangsta Granny" bits on WC's and Dr. Stank's albums.
