Title: E-40 - The Block Brochure: Welcome To The Soil [Discussion Thread]
Post by: Smokin Briccz on March 21, 2012, 08:45:04 PM
Its out there.

Personally I like Disc 2 but I haven't listened to it very much yet.

Some cool beats on here, but also alot of wack hyphy sounding shit.

Discuss.

If my math is right, fans have gotten 7 E-40 cd's in the past 3 years, right? It's a lot of 40 water to digest.

Yep, exactly. Theres a handfull of bangers on this album but for the most part I'm not impressed, and pretty disappointed, lol.

To me, Tha Hall Of Game was his last hot album, which dropped in 1996. He was 29 then, he is 45 now. lol.

haven't heard any of the albums fully but he really has some long overdue collaborations on there and some guests I was happy to see who 40 hasn't worked with in years

Andre Nickatina, C-Bo, Lynch/Tech N9ne collab, Spice 1/Celly Cel collab = win

wtf that nigga aint done hyphy in YEARS!

no hyphy shit at all on that album for real... hyphy is dead. and I liked some hyphy shit to be honest (like Dem hoodstarz' Grown Man On)

so far so good for me... i was expecting much much more filler. It's better than the first two RR's and as consistent as the other two RR's. a lot of mobb music with an updated sound, I LOVE it : Cutlass, Outta Town, This Is The Life, Street Nigga, I'm Laced, Be You, Bust Moves. Seriously the production on these tracks is amazing, especially the ones with Sam Bostic involved (Cutlass & This Is the Life i believe).

then you have the "serious"/ "struggle" songs that 40's been making since the beginning of his career ("tired of gettin' stepped on" type songs), it's usually pretty good and this time it still is, I like "Help Me" feat. Mike Marshal (of Timex Social Club and I Got Five On it fame who's been very active for the last 6-7 years) & Go hard Black (the dallas mc i presume) and the religious song with Agerman & Suga-T (two former gangsta rappers turned "ghetto preachers" lol).

then you have the love songs like Grey Skies and I Salute You, nothing groundbreaking but i like it a lot personally

then you have the grimey/gangsta stuff in the same vein as "my lil grimey nigga" from RROS : Hit a Lick, With The Shit, The Other day Ago, didn't like it at first but it's growing on me. With The Shit especially is very nice.

then you have the freaky/sex songs like Scorpio or Let's Fuck. Scorpio is kinda meh and Let's Fuck is good.

you have the usual club bangers with They Point & Function. Two incredibly catchy songs with good features. best club bangers 40 ever did IMO, way better than Snap Ya Finger, U & Dat or Show Me What You Workin' With, Bitch was better tho.

the songs i don't really like are the one with generic ass beat that you can't tell the difference from one another : Red & Blue Light, Gargoyle serenade.

Oh and Warren G's production on "what happened to them days" is incredibly tight. nothing u would expect from G-Dub but tight as fuck. Warren G's definitely back in the production game.

overall I like it a lot, we'll see if it stands the test of time but man for 60 songs the filler rate is extremely low IMHO.

http://To me, Tha Hall Of Game was his last hot album, which dropped in 1996. He was 29 then, he is 45 now. lol.

TBH I don't really like THOG. I think E-40 tried to cross over with songs like Some Things'LL Never Change and it's incredibily corny (even if musically it was decent). Of course it's a very solid release since it was released in 96 and the standards were very high at the time but from the same period the B-Legit album is easily better IMO, unaldurated sick wid it mobb music. and I think I like even Charlie Hustle & Element of Surprise better than hall of game.

I don't really dig CD 1, lots of boring beats imo, but CD 2 and CD 3 are bangin. "Zombie", "Catch A Fade" and "the Other Day Ago" are my outstanders so far. But I def gotta digest those albums a bit longer and give em a closer listen.

personally vol. 2 is str8 heat!!

vol 3 IMO was terrible!! that religious song with agerman and suga t i mean even tho it had good intentions it just threw me the fuck off!! but then again ever since element of suprise it aint like he's done any themed albums ya know! it's like he's pretty much been doing compilation albums!

vol. 1 was coo but vol. 2 is heat!

STREET NIGGA IS THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM!

it's like that throwback to late 90's and early 2000's bay area shit!! im tellin you ice cube woulda been dope on that bitch maynE!

after many spins there is many song that i like

Welcome to the soil volume 1

Fastlane : i like it because of the video, it's a good joint

They Point : dope club banger

Outta Town : one of the best track of this volume, i bet a video will be made very soon

Do The Playa : pure west coast beat, E40 is awesome on this joint

Cutlass : i like the beat plus it's always good to hear Richie Rich Flows, smooth  !!

In The Ghetto : i loove Rap/Ragga song since always into somethin and this one is dope... who the hell is Ranki Scroo godammit ??

Rollin : good to see Raheem on the hook, Laroo is good as usual

Mary Jane : better than the song with kokane and the dogg pound Imo

Help Me : best E40/Mike Meezy collabo in my own the other are good but this one is the best, the sample with the voice ont the Back is deep

volume 2 and 3 very soon...

Welcome to the soil volume 3 :

Wasted : Good hyphy song !!

Just Be you : the best e40/too short song released in a while ! the best song of the volume 3

Pussy Loud : dope song i like the hook and Cool Nutz spit hard on this one

What Happen to them day : some real talk on this song, something about life, warren g drop a dope beat it's good to see him on some real move

Get ya Weight up : chingalingaling..chingalingaling.. Katt williams  ;D then another dope club banger !!

40 and hiero : good song i like the scratch and the hierogliphics are good on this song

Over here : another fonz/ shorty mac collabo, too short spit hard on this one, droop e is good on the hooks

a lil bit disapointed by this volume, 2 reasons :

- the song that i was waiting for were average like the one feat the dogg pound and the one with Kendrick Lamar

- Nipsey doesn't appeared on the final tracklist

maybe some other songs will growns on me after some other spins

im listenin to Vol 2 right now, n i dont kno what is wrong wit the naysayers. if this is a taste of what is next to come, wit the other 2 cds, then this aint bad at all (at least not musicaly), lyricaly E-40 is pretty good too.   8)

pretty much loved everythin so far, except that T-Pain song.. and "Scorpio"w/Tech N9ne was wack tho
n lol @ "This Shit Hard", that track is weird as hell

and good to see him rekindlin himself wit names like JT Biggafigga, Andre Nick, Spice, and Cel. kinda cool to bump thru an album, wit T-Pain on one song, and then to have Jt Bigga Figga show up on the next

K got my copy in the mail. just listened to all three volumes.
 Shit knocks!!!!!!
Dope as fuck, all three volumes are dope as fuck.
Seriously i love all three of them. Dope production and raps, features, etc.
IMO theres on very few weak tracks over the three cds. some beats not the greatest i guess.
The only bad thing the third cd got damaged in the mail somehow and the song with Snoop/DPG/Koke & the one with Too $hort fucked but disc clean should fix.
CDs honestly all sounded really really good. 40 great on the mic and seriously dope beats.
Cant wait to crank in car and at piss up/party.
I've drank alot so maybe it contributes but iam really happy with this album.
