Title: What was the greatest Source mic rating injustice?
Post by: King Tech Quadafi on February 06, 2003, 11:50:21 AM
besides the ratings the source went on to correct later on
(2001, doggystyle, chronic etc)

me personally, i still cannot to this day fathom how Balance and Options got 3 mics, i think it is an amazing album

Good topic.

Im gonna vote for the suga free hate. There is no way this album deserved what it got. It's near classic status in my eyes. For them to do that... Wow... What a bunch of pricks

Warren G - Regulate... G-Funk Era getting 3.5 mics.

I have all the issues from the early 90's and they were hating hard on the West Coast when it came to reviews.

X-Raided getting 2 mics was pretty bad. Im not really a fan of his but that album was at least a 3.

but yea i was shocked at the Balance and Options rating too, even tho Quik himself says its a bad album.

the newest source mag about to drop gave caniubus- Mic Club a 2.5...honestly that is the greatest injustice of all time, or at least that i can think of...it easily deserves a 4 without questioning, peace.

Midnight Marauders should have been in that 150th issue.  It got 4 mics but is an easy 5.

The homie incognito wrote an awesome article on the source titled:

5 Mic Fuck Up

Which pretty much sums it up.
http://www.angelfire.com/ia3/hip-hop-reviewed/editorials/5mics.htm

Beware there are a few pop ups but overall worth the read.

My biggest injustice is giving Biggies Life After Death 5 mics and Jay Z's Blueprint 5.  Alot of people consider those classics but IMO, they only gave Biggie 5 because of his death.  (RIP none the less)

Im also pissed that they never rated 2Pac's - All Eyes On Me.

I dont think it desearved 5 MICS.  If it was only one album of the best songs, maybe!  But that double album (which was only a double in response to 2Pacs double album) had tons of filler tracks and didnt desearve 5 mics.  IMO.  4 would have been just fine.

They said they didn't review AEOM becuase it was not submitted in time.

I think the greatest injustice was giving Made Men 4.5 mics.

People who are upset with ratings for artists like Suga Free or E-40 should understand that being a fan of them requires an aquired taste.  Personally I can't even listen to one song from either of them, seriously, for me to listen to them they must have a real bangin' beat in the background for me to focus on.

The source is a bullshit magazine, that is the bottom line. Made Men getting 4.5 mics is the best indication. Ive boycotted it, you all should to. There used to be a time where the mics mattered, but now, its all bullshit.

Fuck all that the biggest fucking injustice was Benzino getting rhyme of the month!!!  Thats worst than any body getting fucked over in their rhymes.

And about the Warren-G shit, he should have gotten 4 not 5, Warren had A,B,C rhymes on that whole disk.  the beats were tight for that time era, but nobody with that little rhyme skill could eva get 5 mics.

As far as Mics go there is too many to name but for the west coast, 2Pac,Snoop,Dre,DoggPound, and the first eastsidaz.   I remember when the Eastsidaz first came out everyone in L.A was bumping "Give Em What They Want dogg"  My boy in Ny told that the only West Coast song getting play on the east coast was "if you got beef"  That album is classic.  but if you read the  source for rating your already fucked, cuz your going to be disapointed.

yeah thats true dogg, im from the east coast - g'd up and got beef only got play on the radio. Nothing else got play. The album got no support from the local stations, record stores didnt even push it. unbelievable - such a good album.
