Magic fire coach Stan Van Gundy; GM also gone (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/magic-fire-coach-stan-van-195108462--nba.html;_ylt=Ah0o.56haiTuY1kYSAdqOy85nYcB)

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) The Magic fired coach Stan Van Gundy on Monday and agreed to part ways with general manager Otis Smith.

Smith and Van Gundy's relationship with Dwight Howard was the centerpiece of a soap opera that weighed down the franchise all season after the All-Star center requested a trade.

The Magic lost in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. Orlando went 37-29 in the regular season but was eliminated in five games by Indiana after a rash of late-season injuries that included back surgery for Howard. Orlando went 5-12 without him.

In early April, Van Gundy claimed top-ranking team officials had told him that Howard had asked management to fire Van Gundy as a condition of the center signing a long-term contract beyond 2013. Howard denied it.

Van Gundy coached the Magic for five seasons. He finished with a 259-135 record, going 31-28 in the playoffs.

It's all good. I'm sure he went home and had a great day.

Nah, not SVG.  I hated these two on utah but if the clippers can get lots of 50+ win seasons & possibly get better than so be it.  Get Jerry Sloan.  Karl Malone wanted 2 be an assistant coach also.  Blake can learn from Karl on positives, as long as he doesn't become a hypocritical bully like Karl was.

I bet Howard will still end up leaving barring a surprising turnaround of the Magic next season.

Apparently he now wants out more than ever. He single-handedly destroyed the franchise. Sick shit.

My pipe-dream scenario:

Mavs trade Haywood (8m), Odom (8m) and Marion (9m) and Dominique Jones for Howard (18m) and Hedo (11m).

Mavs amnesty the useless, overpaid Turk immediately.

Mavs sign Deron Williams as a free agent with the remaining ~18m in capspace to a 5 year, 100m contract.

Mavs re-sign free agents Kidd & Terry through bird rights.

Mavs re-sign Delonte West and Ian Mahinmi with the mid-level exception.

Mavs re-sign Cardinal for the vets min.

Mavs sign Tracy McGrady for the vets min.

New dynasty:

Dwight Howard... Ian Mahinmi
Dirk Nowitzki... Brandan Wright, Brian Cardinal
Tracy McGrady
Jason Terry... Rodrigue Beaubois
Deron Williams... Jason Kidd, Delonte West
