Kind of trance sound to me. Also plays a little slow, imo, but probably will sound right in the context of the entire album. I think it's good, not great, but I'm definitely fiendin for Yellow Album.
Your thoughts?

Hard to believe you'll dig this but not anything Kendrick is doing.

I have yet to hear anything from Kendrick that touches Westside Part II or The Original DK.
Put me onto some Kendrick with that kind of vibe and I'll check it out. Thanks.

Didn't you just say you like this trance song? The vibe of this song is nothing like 90s gangsta rap.

He's talking about hanging with n@ggaz and bitches at a party. Isn't that the sort of thing Snoop rapped about, too? E.g. Gin and Juice.
If you're referring to the beat and vocal flow, I could definitely hear the DPG over this. Kurupt could come in and easily drop a hot 16. In fact, I have heard Kurupt do this kind of flow plenty of times.
The beat doesn't have a Parliament sample, but that would be a narrow conceptualization of the characteristics of 90s gangsta rap, imo. It's also the content, cadence, flow, etc. There's more to it than just that.
But like I said, I like it, don't love it. It's a little slow overall and half-baked. But I think it will sound great in the context of the complete album.

or better yet like 40% of any hip-hop ever released. the other 40% are about money and sporting weaponry. 10% is random shit and another 10% is really having a message. but fuck it, we still love that shit. xD
as for this song, i dont like it. sounds boring to me. and as soon as the beat doesnt carry - which is the case here - dom kennedy is useless. his lyrics suck ass for the most part, his strength is his tiht flow over smooth productions. this song doesnt work though.
oh and for the guy bringing the kendrick punch: i guess this user is just stuck in the old west coast sound, so there is no surprise that he likes dom kennedy over kendrick. kendricks songs sound way more modern for the most part. if he cant deal with that, it's his problem, why do you bother?

Yeah I know dude is stuck in the past, but he's dedicating a topic about a song that sounds nothing like the past. I figured if he was digging this trance shit he could be digging the sounds other rappers use if he gave them a chance.

No, it's that you are completely missing my point. This song sounds much closer to 90s Westcoast rap than the Kendrick songs I've heard. But I look at things other than the beat having a Parliament sound to make such a determination. But, again, I wasn't the one who brought up Kendrick in the first place. That's neither here nor there with regard to the point of this thread. But, again, I ask you: tell me some Kendrick songs that are as good as the stuff Dom K. got on his previous two albums, and I'll check it out. Conspicuously, you have yet to post any. That latest single he had with Dre was some straight Southern-pandering music.
Moreover, I don't know why we're always pitting Westcoast rappers against each other. I like Dom and asked people for their opinion on this new song, and you immediately came in pitting Kendrick against him. How is that healthy for the state of Westcoast in general? It's petty and small and narrow.
Then you say I'm stuck in the past, but then in the next breath you say this new song I like sounds like nothing from the 90s, thus contradicting your claim I'm stuck in the past. ::)
Fact is, Dom knows how to ride a beat and find the rhythm in it and due to that, he can make a good song out of relatively little starting material. He has a strong musical ear, and that's why his buzz is growing. I think this song could have been better and said so initially, but I'm sure Yellow Album has some heat, if his previous two albums are any indication.
And with that, I'm moving on... 8)

lol no way this song sounds nothing like the 90s. A lot of his other stuff does but not this.
I mean you might as well listen to this, which actually sounds like it could be something from back in the day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahnx-Ao2DkM

the latest single of kendricks with dr dre does not sound like Southern-pandering music. it sounds like some real old school west coast . you must not know what real old school west coast sounds like . nothing kendrick puts out sounds southern at all . this Dom Kennedy sounds more southern then any kendrtick song . i should know west coast better then most because i was west coast when ice t started & bought almost every west coast release from 1986 to 1996..it sounds to me kendrick is too smart for you . check kendricks song hdh that is my favorite song by him . also i am Dom Kennedy fan & seen him live.

yeah I missed this gem. WTF! Where do you hear south anywhere in The Recipe? It's some west coast shit produced by a west coast producer. On top of that its a song about weed and women in LA.

Kendirkc has a lot of west coast sounding tracks anyway. But i'm not gonnma bother argueing about it. if u dont bother checking his stuff yourself, then just leave it. u still miss the best rapper from the west then anyway. and even if u dont like the beats, you cant compare kendrick to dom lyrically.
-
you cant compare kendrick to dom lyrically.
And I'm not. :) Never said that Dom > Kendrick lyrically. I just like Dom's music more. And I didn't even introduce Kendrick into this thread so why are we still on this? lol.
It's my fault for taking the bait. Congrats to the dude who injected Kendrick into this discussion for successfully derailing this thread. You accomplished your goal, I guess.
To the guy who posted that Kendrick song, thank you kind sir. I'll check it out. 8) (Just a coincidence that Dom is on it, though? lol ;))
But I'm still fiendin' for that Yellow Album. Dom is one of the few new Westcoast rappers I actually enjoy listening to. I liked Bishop, too, but he got dropped. Oh well. >:(
-
well sorry, bro. u were getting into the discussion when the other guy brought kendrick in, so i figured i could just drop my two cents. no problem if u dont wanna discuss this anymore tho. but i dont think nobody destroyed this thread by doing this, cause, as you can see, mno one else does even really care about this single of Dom. no offense tho, if you like that song thats cool for you. music is here to enjoy it.

Yeah this would be a dead thread if I hadn't replied. Even the people who like Dom probably aren't digging this. Anyway I dropped a Kendrick song that sounds westcoast. Other guy did as well. If he'd rather listen to trance its his right.

this is garbage.
