Might be worth giving http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/trillian/index.html  a go - can't guarantee it will fix your problem but it is a cool program :)

Or use Trillian once you have an account for AIM - it does ICQ/AIM/MSN/IRC all in one program.  

I'll shut up about it now ! (and no I'm not on comission, the basic version is free ;))

True msn does blow...conflicts sometimes with mah work e-mail and with fxp,
not funny sometimes ...as they saying get trillian may ease yer worries
