What's up everybody. Was jammin some tunes this AM and some Snoop came on and I ended up listening to a few songs. It was Last Meal and the Last Meal advance which included some songs that didn't make the official release. Dope shit all around.
Anyway, "Issues" and "No Bacctraccin" played back to back, and it reminded me how tight Snoop was. He was rappin his ass off on those songs. Shit was sick sun.
That is all. May you have a blessed and wonderous day.

Yeah I would say 2nd to only Doggystyle that is my favorite album from Snoop. Had soooo many hits on their and the production was almost flawless.
-
Issues is such classic...damn, good ol days.

Can't be mad at Snoop for all his bullshit. Not many rappers that have three albums doper than Doggystyle, Doggfather and Last Meal.

I'd say tied with Doggfather (despite its flaws) but yeah

take the No Limit track off and put "Bacctrackin" and "Sunshine" on and you have got a borderline classic there...

Yeah there's nothing lyrically that stand out bout the album (aside from Whats the use of the truth...) Snoop is tight tho dont get me wrong

take the No Limit track off and put "Bacctrackin" and "Purple" on and you have got a serious classic there...

"Sunshine", "Back Up Hoe", "Fathers Day", "Hot Pursuit", "No Bacctraccin", ''Blaze it Up", "So Heavy on my Mind", "Money 2 Fold OG", "Inside of You", "Tha Last Meal", "Pop Yo Collar OG", "U Cant Outpimp a Pimp"
the advance had some classic cuts....if u combine the best cuts from the advance with the best cuts from the retail, u got a definitive classic.

forgot about some of those cuts...you could possibly have a classic double album combining the 2

Someone just posted this elsewhere: http://shemet.in/~klav/Music/Black%20Boza/Snoop%20Dogg/Snoop%20Dogg%20-%20Discography/Mixtapes%20and%20Compilations/2000%20Tha%20Last%20Meal%20%28Advance%20Edition%29/

duno bout classic double album, but if u combine all the best tracks into 1 album, u definitely got yaself a classic.

Its a shame a lot of those tracks will never get released and get the proper exposure.

Unless snoops lion incarnation flops so hard his hiphop card gets revoked..
Be nice to get a 'from the vault' type release

Definitely my 2nd favourite Snoop album!
Production was super tight, raps were good, and more personal lyrics from Snoop.
It was also a well put together album, unlike NL Top Dogg (& other albums) where they seemed like a bunch of tracks (even though dope tracks individually) thrown together without any thought.
Last Meal just flowed together cohesively despite the number of different producers. I think it definitely helped Dre mixed most of the album.
Meech definately came with heat on that album.
I remember Snoop caught a lot of flack at the beginning about too much Kokane on it, but i thought he was dope on every track!
My only criticism is that Snoop could have had had a little more conviction in some of his raps & it was about 20min too long. He could have got rid of some filler tracks like I can't swim, Pump Ya Brakes & Back up off me, and shortened other tracks which would have made it shorter.

Agree, and especially with your last point. Snoop is tight, but he still rambles on most of the tracks. The hooks are more memorable than what he's actually spitting!

And that's why Pump Ya Brakes stays! 8)

I thought pump ya brakes was weak personally.
The mixing was awful, it sounded flat, it was too long (almost 6min iirc) and snoop sounded uninspired!
Along with Hennessy & Buddha, Issues was my favourite track!

No doubt.. Snoop had a resurgence during that era of his career. It started with the Top Dogg album and included his work on Dre's album, the Eastsidaz and Last Meal. He had good people around him in that time, he was workin with West Coast artists like Meach, Battlecat, Dre, Tray Dee, Goldie Loc, Butch Cassidy, Kokaine, etc.... once he started fuckin with Pharell that's when he fell off again.
"Sunshine" was also a classic unreleased joint. I noticed the beat is similar to the "Zoom" track Snoop did with Dre. Dope smoking song.

Truth my bro.
But Snoop did Beautiful with Neptunes + Uncle Charlie and u can't knock the mainstream recognition he got for that joint.
After that he fell off kinda hard (but then so did Pharrell and the music industry as a whole).

I think Issues is one of those songs you either love or hate, Hen and Buddah is one of the all time underrated Snoop tracks 8)

I think it's great the mainstream success Snoop had with "Beautiful". But that album was a significant drop off in quality from Top Dogg and Last Meal. Not to mention he also abandoned a lot of the great chemistry he had going with the Dogghouse Records affiliated artists. That Paid the Cost To Be The Boss album ruined a great tradition for me with Snoop albums. I got Doggystyle as a Christmas present in 1993, but every album after that one I bought the day it came out and listened to it from begining to end. After Paid the Cost to Be the Boss I stopped buying Snoop albums just off name recognition.

but I've BEEN tellin' ya'll. Snoop has 1 of the best catalogs in the game. It's just that his shit is all spread over like mayoniase so it's hard 2 fully grasp that. alotta his greatest records are on features, mixtapes, and unreleased demos, "Tha Last Meal" is no exception. cool album but it should've been combined and slimmed down.
does anybody have the other Bootlegs to this album too? this and PDCTBDB had a couple different versions (i think, i'm faded right now).
