Some consider this EP as piece of what the pre-NWA breakup solo LP that was supposed to be produced by Dr. Dre titled "Temporary Insanity" that never got to see the light of day.

that woulda been dope for e to drop temporary insanity wit dre back in the day but....shit happens they should'na broke up. on topic though 5150 had some bangers on it it' my least fav. in his discograghy and i don't even count that impact of..ep at all that was trash.
-
i'm sure there's stuff layin around in Tomeka and NWA's vaults that may never even see the light of day. i've usually bundled this with "It's On" when in rotation. 2 different sounds but the same subject.
-
yeah. it's good to know he has unreleased shit and if they ever decide to release it, it should be in og form and it needs to finish where ''str.8 off tha streetz'' left off(that's how hgh my bar is for it). eazy has one of the best discographies in music and they shouldn't take it lightly.
-
i think he went Jehovah before he transitioned off. Atleast his Estate's actions say that.
I think Pac felt tha same way almost. Suge & Afeni (and 'nem) went on a decency campaign to "clean him up" which didn't make sense IMO. that's why we got all of the Poetry books and the bullshit Remixes before we got anything in raw form (excluding those bootlegs for a second)
Or maybe E knew this kinda thing would happen to his music so he blocked posthumous albums from coming out. i think it would be a great idea in 2013 to release some original, raw music. clean it up digitally good enough and put it out. nowadays his music probably wouldn't have to go thru so much RedTape and BS just for some online chit or for a special release
-
even if they don't put nothin' else out str.8 off tha streets is cool.
-
i had this tape back in the 90's. Shityest shit ive ever heard back then. But now not so much basicly
-
Neighborhood Sniper is my favorite joint off this. So raw, a mainstream artist could never get away with making a song like this today. I used to bump this all the time when it came out.
-
sick ep.

The very first time Will.I.Am appeared on wax...

Alotta people don't even realize how long that guy has been around. And then they turn around and say Hip Hop has an age limit lmao!

"Neighborhood Sniper" was the exact reason why I made this thread lol. And you're right, I think this video wouldn't get any burn today, they'd probably have to re-do the whole video becuz it's that Raw. Nigga ran up and shot somebody and then took a picture and ran off LOL. Too gangsta. That record and video is way more grimey than any of my young niggaz would do today, they're that hard!

Mr. Wright has plenty of unheard/unreleased tracks in the vault. I cant remember the DJ's name but hes and an old school cat out of cali!He said he had tons of unheard tracks but said that he would probably never release them. Who knows what tamica is doing over @ruthless but I would say that dj is the only chance at getting any useful recordings of eazy-e . Damn shame too, I dont care if the man could write his own lyrics or not, that voice made everything sound good! He was also a monster marketer! He played the game! The game never played him! Except for bitches who do us all in!

I mean damn, even tho it's probably a wet dream you'd think they'd place "Neighborhood Sniper" in with the Countdowns with "Nothin But A 'G' Thang" and "Today Was A Good Day" n shit like that. :'( ["Only If U Want It" didn't have enough reverb (and liveness) in the beat]
But i agree with exactly what you're saying. Lyricist or not he made this cool. #Pause, His voice and they beats he had at the time made his music vicious. I mean in real life, you're actually praying that wun day soon they'd release all his music in all original form. Some of the money is there. Maybe not like in 96' but something's out there

Totally Different sound than Its on... Mainly due to being recorded before The Chronic, got some production by treach, prolly why eazy e had a cameo on the hip hop hooray video. When I saw this in the single section of musicland back in 92, it was a choice between the ice cube wicked single (I loved that song) or Eazy-e 5150. I chose Eazy-e. Gotta say I love this ep. I use to play it over and over again. in the late 90s, early 2000s it was very hard to find anymore. I finally got my cd copy and consider it to be a huge piece of West coast history :)

rhythm d...he claimed to have a whole bunch of eazy material which he was planning to release. there mighta been some1 else, i dont remember, but i know rhythm d said he had material at one point.
i remember when this album was extremely hard to find....i got a hold of it on ebay and was happy as hell. anything eazy goes.

maybe they'll put a song out on the NWA Soundtrack
-
Man, I've got to respectfully disagree with most of you.
When NWA fell apart, I wasn't siding with anyone. I was buying everyone's music. Ren, Cube, Dre, Eazy. So I wasn't biased in any way. And when this EP came out, it was a HUGE let down. The fall off in production quality and lyrics was arguably the biggest we had ever seen and have ever seen (Eazy Duz It to this?).
That being said, Eazy redeemed himself with the 187um EP...largely because there was a g-funk influence courtesy Rhythm D and Hutch from ATL.
IMO, Ren made the best transition post Dre...Kizz My Black Azz and Shock of The Hour were both pretty impressive efforts considering they were entirely the work of Ren, unlike all previous NWA and NWA solo efforts to that point in time.
-
What was the exact date this came out? December 10th or 28th
But i think we can all agree that it wasnt his best effort. Which is crazy becuz i think they all were trying to prove sumthing becuz they all went Solo. E probably wasnt a real producer like that so he probably put most of his trust into Yella, Hutch, etc. Not saying he didnt have an ear or eye for talent.
I've said this before but its kinda unfair to judge his released material. A 4 song ep, A 5 song ep with 2 interludes and a remix, and an incomplete release of songs for a triple LP (excluding his debut, "greatest hits/best of early Eazy-E", and remix ep). Him and Big have the same issue but Biggie's had it waaaaaaaaay better than E.
They need to go ahead and put that "Neighborhood Sniper" video up on "Week In Jams" and on the radio. "BackSpin" Radio needs to have a TV Station or something

dec 10th 92, 5 days before the chronic
-
this album was garbage forreal and didnt treach write like most of his lyrics on some of the songs. eazy e my fav artist but this EP was weak compared to the next one after it :D
only if u want it swear to god was the biggest piece of trash ever no lie!
-

Yeah its safe to say that out of all of the members in NWA excluding Prince & Yella that its obvious that Eazy had the weaker catalog between them four if u count Dre rapping and actually producing between Deep Cover and the California Love Remix. I'd even think most people would agree that "Neighborhood Sniper" is the best song
I also agree that Ren hasnt gotten his good due either, and when Eazy went on it fucked it up for him. Along with not incarnating some of that PFunk flava tha South has with Crunk music when it was first started to pop off ("Bia Bia" days). Ren's early EP and albums were like a building block to the sound of hardcore hip hop.
**** "Only If U Want It" is missing reverb in the beat, its aw stiff

bump

Only if U want it, was my favorite song followed by niggas my height dont fight. neighborhood sniper 3rd... And I liked this ep way better than kizz my black azz.
-
Does anyone remember the promo video on the box... Where eazy is hopping down a street in a red convertible 64? I'm sure it was a promo for 5150... I been looking erywhere for that video clip and no luck... It was a Christmas theme commercial..
-
Yeah neighborhood sniper was the best song on there. Those reggae dudes went off. And if I remember right Treach wrote the lyrics to only if u want it and Kay Gee produced it...but u can tell Treach wrote the lyrics just from the first few bars "can I get eye open up, Eazy loc'n up, smokin up what..." that's vintage Treach and he prolly coulda ripped that verse but instead you got Eazy and it just sounds like he's chasing the flow the whole time not really ridin the beat.
-
The reggae dudes was kokane and cold187um.. Sick album... 8)
