Raptors get Rudy Gay
Pistons get Jose Calderon
Grizzlies get Ed Davis, Austin Daye, & Tayshaun Prince

crazy trade...all players involved have only played for 1 team their entire career. i like it all the way around, but Toronto may be giving up too much, depending on how Ed Davis pans out. good for my fantasy team, as i have amir johnson, kyle lowry, and rudy gay 8)

Any reason why the Griz did this?

I was wondering the same thing. Outside of Tayshaun I don't know that much about the package they got but they were ballin, don't know why they decided to give up Gay. Are they expecting Gasol or Z-Bo to be the lead scorers now?

I read it has something to do with the luxury tax & salary cap. Still, they were leading the West earlier in the season. Crazy move.
-
^ LOL @ a top team shedding salary. Is Ed Davis really that good?

for financial purposes....pretty stupid, though, when u have a contending team.
i guess they figured to beat the spurs and took okc to 7 without gay, so his huge salary isn't worth it...which is dumb, cuz i think gay was the player who coulda put them over0-the-top.

ed davis is a good prospect (austin daye, too), but they wont really contribute what gay was...looks like the front office figured they didn't need him anyways, and are probably under the assumption that they could sign a much better piece with that money coming off the table.

Calderon is in the last year of an expiring contract, and not expected to re-sign with Toronto, so Toronto really was smart by trading him and Davis to get a player like Rudy Gay. I dont think Calderon stays in Detroit, doesnt make much sense to me. Look for Detroit to move him again before the deadline to a contender.

Also, just wanted to note that Jose Calderon was one of my fav raptors of all time. The guy is the definition of a professional, and any team would be lucky to have him. Ed Davis, sad to see him go to. He brings it every night and has been improving steadily all season. Could be a solid 15 and 10 guy soon.

but toronto is not saving money, theyre unloading calderon's contract for an even bigger one..granted rudy gay is a nice player, giving up ed davis is still big. he actually has some legit potential. as for detroit, they wanted to dump salary and do need a distributor, so i dont think theyre gunna trade calderon. on second glance, the trade doesnt make as much sense as i thought it did...i think both toronto and memphis woulda been better standing pat.

Its not about saving money or Calderon contract. Its about Calderon walks at the end of the season and Raptors get nothing for him.

Plus, when you can trade for a player (Rudy Gay) and he immediately becomes the best player on your team, thats a good thing.

Not too pleased with dealing Ed Davis...

memphis new owners dont care about winning a title. they have 2 stars on the team (gasol & zbo), as long as they are in the playoffs every year and keeping people buying tickets, they're happy

I wonder if they'll move B.Knight to SG and Calderon will get the starting gig.

i believe thats what theyre gunna try, but brandon knight seems a lil too small to play SG...then again, Monta Ellis has been handlin it.
