As I look around the forum, I don't really see anyone mentioning anything from the new west rappers crating some buzz and making a following for themselves. Granted their only making underground albums (Mixtapes) and promoting themselves but making some good quality music. Something fresh and a new sound is coming out this new generation of rappers from the west and their not getting the attention old west rappers still get. Yea i know it's only on this forum but it's the only forum I know that is dedicated to the West Coast.
I want to know if you Dubcc members even care to listen to these new up and coming rappers or you guys simply haven't heard of them do to lack of exposure. I haven't Mentioned any of these "New" rappers names because I want to See How many people can mention these new rappers so my question is,
Who is in the fore front of this new west and other up and coming rappers to get a deal. Something like "Unsigned Hype" Type of rappers.

Yea I realize that but I also realize that no offense of your not from the U.S. , but the majority of the people here are from somewhere in Europe or some else in the world which is a good thing, that means there a lot of westcoast fans out there but there not from L.A or somewhere in the Bay and they don't know whats "poppin" in these streets. Their only exposure to the up and coming artist out here are co-signs from Dr Dre or Snoop and the internet for that matter. But if you go out to the scenes here like the clubs and house parties in L.A., you really have the ear to the street and you know whats up. That being said, it seems like no one really cares until their about to blow up cuz they got a co-sign from Dr Dre or Snoop. I get it, their a house hold name but I'm just saying, be open minded and expand your horizons ya feel me?

That's what I was talking about. U have to be really news resistant to not know about Problem or YG cuz they everywhere. And like I said YG is prime example what's wrong with the west and secondly people on this forum do not talk about those kind of rappers cuz its not DPG related and if I follow news from here I would never heard about many dope underground artist.

Lol you hit on a nail like a muthafucka. Thank u guys for replying and speaking on how you feel about the new west. I just wanted to confirm why u guys don't give the new west a chance. Nobody was talking about Kendrick Lamar until he got signed to Dr Dre. Nobody gave a shit about Bishop Lamont until he was signed with Dr Dre and nobody cared about slim the mobster until he was under Dr Dre. Now that they fell out with him, nobody is talking about them.
Does anybody like any of the other artist on TDE? or is it just Kendrick Lamar?

I can understand why you don't like YG, I used to feel the same way and quite frankly, he's not really my style. It's for a younger generation but this is what's poppin right now and it kinda grew on me. The way I see it is I'd rather listen to someone from the west make party songs than someone from the east or south. He still rap about LA shit but with party swag. All that gangbangin 101 shit u guys love is not this generation. And your not a gangster so quit being obsessed with it lol. So like I said itchi, what part of Europe u from?

Most of the new West sucks. I'm sorry but it's true, when you rip your identity and concepts from old hood movies and original Artist instead of trying to bring something new to the table it's usually bad. I mean even if they use the same concepts it'd be ok if they executed them better.
But the problem with the New West imo is they don't stay true to their style, they rip off Southern productions in order to sell, they don't develop good lyricism. and they sound like they are mentally retarded in their interviews.
I'm not saying it has to be the signature G-Funk style, but when I hear your intro beats and you got me thinking your a southern artist I'm not really gonna fuck with you because I'm looking for something I can relate to and from the southern artist I've heard they aren't spitting good lyrical game, and their production isn't my taste.
As for the Lyricism I'm not expecting New York Caliber lyricism, but for fuck sakes have some standards when you spite. Some of that shit is trash. I know OG West Artist lyrics were more on Clarity and then complicated rhyme schemes, but they were able to get away with it because they managed to create some amazing records. They got away with it because it was still hot and the music was good. They brought something to the Mic. Most of the cats I've heard it's the same Menace II Society bullshit, It's the same Crappy Lyrics
I mean 1 of the main criticisms (unfounded imo) was it was just talking over beats. No it wasn't it was rhyming and flowing, but I swear to god these niggaz aren't using lyrics, they just talk. If I wanted to hear talking over a beat I'lll listen to Skits.
Then off the mic they sound fucking stupid as hell, which explains to me why they suck on the record.
Now I know why a lot of em are like this. It's because it's way easier to put together a studio and distribute a record, and the fact you don't have to be real to sell (Officer Ricky) means any tard who did get the basic concepts of poetry can be a rapper. Lyrical Dexterity doesn't mean shit (See Soulja Boy) all you need is a Catchy hook, a mainstream sound (Preferably Club) and you can be successful.
That's why rap today is so fucking shitty because it's become so easy to produce it's no longer people who are talented seeing the mainstream, it's anyone with a youtube account, a pirated copy of Fruity loops, and a gimmick. You don't even need a good voice, you can modify it, correct the vocals to flow with the production and then all you gotta do is Mimic it in concert and even then you can lip synch.
The New West sucks because the talented Cats are being SWAMPED by the retards who wanna capitalize and not work for a living. Back in the day they couldn't pretend to be a Gangster, or any of that shit they'd get smashed on and nothing would come outta of it, now it's "I'm a real G, my Record says everything you need to know about me" I'd rather listen to Peaches and Herb then these new niggaz :grumpy:

Another thing they don't need skills to make a beat either, Sample a few records and boom, even though I hear Rock isn't as good now as it was before I'll least give em credit for being able to play their instruments. Lot of the older Cats knew how to play instruments to, lot of these new cats only know software programing.

Thats funny you say that cuz the first thing that came to my mind was the intro to doggystyle "the bathtub" straight taking from a scene in Superfly. (Dope movie by the way) and sampling as far as the westcoast is concerened comes from Funk and Zapp. This was the music That our favorite rappers grew up listening to and so thats who they sampled correct? Now people like me and you grew up to Death Row, Dj Quik and so on right? So who do you think these new rappers grew up listening to and watching movies and shit. All from the 90's just like me and you. Naturally, thats where their influences come from but you dont like them because they didnt originate that g-funk sound?
And when your talking about these new rappers, name some of them that are wack, I wanna know who your listening to that makes you say that. Im not deffending their lyricalism but I just want to Support Them Just For The Simple Fact That Their West Coast Rappers From L.A. The same City I'm From. As far as soundiing like the South, The south has always been piggy backing of the west coast sound. Listen to old school scarface and getto boys records. When I hear Old school Master P records, I hear west coast influence beats. I know he reps Richmond Cali and Also N.O but if you catergorize him, hes a rapper from the south right? Listen To some Old UGK records, Tell me they dont have Westcoast Influence.
The South Basically Tweaked Westcoast Beats and started fucking heavy with 808 drums when Rodney O & Joe Cooley started that shit.
Rap has evolved where a region dosent have signature sound anymore. If you play new artist like french montana from the East, YG from the West, and 2 Chains from the south, They have the same sound right? I fuck With YG because hes from the west and thats it.
I respect your opinion and you dont have to like the new guys. Im not even trying to make you like them. I just saying be more open minded to hearing them and support the new guys cuz snoop and dpg are old as fuck now. I love DPG shit i even still go to their shows when they perform even thoough ive seen them like 5 times already. But its time to let go of the past cuz these new guys are here to stay.

And if it looks like I forgot some people then I dont consider them New (like rappers premiering in 2005 with the exception of Game just becuz of the situation with the West and how he held/holds it down. I know for a fact that there's Producers i need to name but becuz there's quite a few beats/instrumentals I liked/love/in love with I cant name everybody. i couldnt care less whats is in the clubs and never did. im going to club to enjoy myself and get shitfaced anf not to check whats it hot in rap. and to be honest i prefer HOUSE CHILLOUT music in club than rap.

When Macklemore started blowing up I heard absolutely no one say he was from the west even though he's from Seattle. I also rarely ever see Chuuwee being referred to as a "New West" artist even though he's from Sacramento. I don't even hear rappers from Oakland being referred to as New West outside of maybe Ya Boy & Lil B.
And at the same time isn't the Jerk Movement part of the "New West?"
After all New Boyz, Young Sam, Wes Nyle and Cali Swag District are all from California.

I would consider the new west as new Mc's in the last 5-6 years. Crooked I has been in since 96' he's old school now with no solo record. That's on him. The game has been making mixtapes since 03' that's 10 years in the game so he's a vet now. Remember how we looked at DPG in 02' as vets in the game?
I think Hollywood covered just about all the new west Mc's I could think of.
I used to think dubcnn didn't cover a lot of these new cats cuz I don't see them mentioned or a heads up on dubcc but if you go to the main site and if you go to the mixtapes section, all the new artist mixtapes are there.
I remember Nik mentioning something about checking out the main page and who really cares about the news section on these new rappers. I forgot but yea.
@ Hollywood , your one of the few members on here that keeps an ear out for new talent, props on that homie, maybe you can school me to some new shit that I ain't up on yet. 8)

Its not that theyr wack but maybe lack of promoting, but honestly you gotta want too listen to all 5million new west rappers. Id actually wish they would stop calling it the new west, cause it gives the youngins an excuse to why theyr not on the radio or on the home page of a poplular forum. Also who says whos old and whos new, because i believe we have a grey area, no disrespect but i just dont have the time or patience to listen to 100 more new artist every month. For every artist you have 2 producers so that just adds to the clutter. 8)

IMO Cali artists are hella gay when it comes to naming themselves, they come up with absolutely tha dumbest fuckin names ever and it makes me (and i imagine most ppl, from Cali or Not) turned off from tha jump. Its not that theyr wack but maybe lack of promoting, but honestly you gotta want too listen to all 5million new west rappers. Id actually wish they would stop calling it the new west, cause it gives the youngins an excuse to why theyr not on the radio or on the home page of a poplular forum. Also who says whos old and whos new, because i believe we have a grey area, no disrespect but i just dont have the time or patience to listen to 100 more new artist every month. For every artist you have 2 producers so that just adds to the clutter. 8)

I don't think these rappers consider or called them selfs "The New West". I just called it that way to distinguish them from new school to the old school. I think Crooked I was the first to start that shit back in 05 or 06 and WC took offensive to it.
As far as wanting to listen to the new artist, I look at myself like a sporting scout looking for new talent and looking for next years top prospects. Skimming through new music can be a challenge filtering through garbage, so so and really good records. When I finally come across something new and refreshing,it gives me a sense of hope for the future. What's gonna happen when your favorite artist finally retires or makes a disappointing record?
There's a couple of good mixtapes out there with really good beats and a different sound witch I like. Lyrically there ok but I vibe out to music and then it grows on me. I think to many of you guys expectations are the next 2pac or Snoop Dogg star quality power and if they don't meet those standards then y'all just don't give them a chance.
