Title: Who can school me on the Bay?
Post by: Lord Funk on March 02, 2003, 04:53:02 AM
OK, so yesterday I picked up a second hand copy of the "Bay Area Playaz" compilation from 1995, with tracks by RBL Posse, Totally Insane and Get Low. This shit is dope, and I want to know more about this style.

The Bay CDs I have already are:

4-Tay: Don't Fight The Feelin' and Off Parole
E-40: Charlie Hustle and Loyalty & Betrayal
The Click: Game Related
Suga T: 4Eva Hustlin
Too Short: Cocktails and You Nasty
Spice 1: Immortalised
Paris: Sleepin' With The Enemy and Guerilla Funk
Conscious Daughters: Ear 2 Tha Street and Gamers

So what I want is more of the kind of shit from this compilation. Obviously in the UK I might have trouble picking up anything too underground, so if anyone can suggest anything relatively easy to pick up I'd appreciate it. Also, how representative is the Bay Area Playaz CD? Is it generally considerede dope, or am I on my own here?!

Thanks all.

Thanks to all who replied. I just picked up Young Lay's Black & Dangerous during my lunch break at work, so I'm looking forward to hearing that tonight - I've heard a lot of good things about Khayree (is that how you spell it?), so I want to see what all the fuss is about his beats. You guys wait, I'll be a Bay expert in no time, lol  ;D

Lol - people seem to keep bumping this back up with comments  ;D  I do appreciate all the feedback y'all; much love to all of yer. Been playing my newly acquired Young Lay CD by the way, and I'm hooked - it's the shit.

Tell you what else is dope, which I've had for a couple of months now but had never really taken in, is Suga T's Paper Chasin' 4Eva Hustlin CD. It's so fucking tight - real Click shit baby! Oh, and Loyalty and Betrayl has been bumping in the discman on the journey to and from work. Naa na na na na na...  :)
