Great interview. Would love to hear the OG version of California Love by K Solo. I've never heard one K Solo track in my life, actually. I may go browse youtube.

That's nothing...
Lance's interview is a little misleading in this aspect. I had already heard that song before. All that is is just part of the beat that Dre stole. The California Love concept and everything else is Dre and Roger Troutman's doing.
That's just a sample. The majority of rap records in those days used a sample. It doesn't mean it was originally K Solo's song by any means.

Geez after all these years, this forum still doesn't understand that using a sample doesn't = stealing?
Just like all these weirdos who got mad at Diddy and Jessica Simpson cuz they both stole I Got 5 On it lol.

No. Jessica Simpson had a remix of some song that used the beat too, I think with bow wow. He didn't mean puff and her together on one track,

its a good listen
he basically said that California love wasn't a three verse dre track as originally thought but a k solo song that dre re did .

Lance wasn't really aware of J-Flexx writing for Dre or that he was a part of Sneed's camp so I think that shows that certain things need to be taken with a grain of salt, such as K-Solo being on the original California Love. I see what he's saying though. He's just speaking from what he saw in the studio and probably wasn't there when Dre did the original California Love. It's pretty well documented that that was a solo song from Dre that got handed over for All Eyez On Me.
Overall these interviews with the engineers are very informative though. Keep em coming J-Mix!
