Title: will anyone ever break Mariano's save record?
Post by: Hack Wilson - real on May 25, 2013, 08:32:02 PM
so far nobody is even CLOSE to being on pace

K-rod and Papelbon have the best chance but even those 2 are REAL long shots when you look at things:

Mariano:  626  (age 43)

Joe Nathan: 313 (age 38)

Francisco Rodriguez:  295  (age 31)

Jose Valverde: 282  (age 35)

Jon Papelbon: 265  (age 32)

Huston Street: 212  (age 29)

Craig Kimbrel:  103  (age 25)

basically in order to catch Mariano you'd need to have 20 years averaging 30 saves and THEN have another great year following that.  damn near impossible.  or 15 years of 40 saves.

plus Mariano also owns the playoff saves record by a huge margin too

Yes, there's this kid in the Yankees' minor league system named Mark Montgomery. He'll take Rivera's place and go on to record 700 saves for the New York Yankees 8).
