We've all done the teams with the best lineups and it simply comes down to the Lakers and Celtics vs everybody else
but what about coaches? let's go with 10 players for each coach...and you can ONLY count the time the player played under that coach. I.E. just because Pat Riely coached Shaq on the Heat doesn't mean Shaq's previous dominance counts.
Here are the first 2 obvious
Phil Jackson:
G Kobe Bryant
G Michael Jordan
SF Scottie Pippen
PF Dennis Rodman
C Shaq
bench: Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher, Ron Harper, Horace Grant, John Paxson
and
Pat Riely:
G Magic Johnson
G Dwayne Wade
F James Worthy
F Ewing
C Kareem
bench: Starks, Oakley, Mourning, Hardaway and Cooper
who else has a team that could even come close to these two??
-
del harris:
pg magic johnson
sg kobe bryant
sf eddie jones
pf robert horry
c shaquille o'neal
bench: nick van exel, vlade divac, cedric ceballos, byron scott, rick fox
mike dunleavy:
pg magic johnson
sg byron scott
sf james worthy
pf shawn kemp
c moses malone
bench:
rasheed wallace
jermaine o'neal
arvydas sabonis
scottie pippen
vin baker
glenn robinson
elton brand
baron davis
eric gordon
zach randolph

The ONLY reason Jackson's lineup works is because of the triangle. If not, Kobe and Michael would fight over the ball, but Scottie can bring the ball up and the team could work from there. But man, that line up would have NO chemistry, but for some reason I think Jackson can make it work. Shaq at center would throw Jordan off because Jordan actually played the center in the Bulls triangle. You'd have to have Rodman over Gasol just to have some role players.
I LOVE the Del Harris one, brings back great memories of Chick Hearns and those Laker teams. I'd put Nick the Quick over Magic though, Magic was not half the player he once was, and Nick was just out his mind under Del Harris.
I guess I have to contribute a coach and his team....
Larry Brown
PG Allen Iverson
SG Reggie Miller
SF Richard Hamilton
PF Danny Manning
C David Robinson
Bench: PG Chauncey Billups, SG Byron Scott, G/F Ralph Simpson, G/F David Thompson, F Sean Elliott, F/C Ben Wallace,C Rik Smits,

Riles with Lebron is unstoppable
Not happening. I think the Heat's game plans are perfect for LeBron. Their pressing D is very hard to get pass, and their O is just really strong. But the rest of the team is not built for the athleticism it takes to run those schemes. The Heat are winning DESPITE themselves. And that falls on Riley to get those players. His job at GM is being exposed. The Heat may still win, and you can't knock going to game 7 in the NBA Finals, but it's all LeBron. The rest of the team is too old and too tired to continue this pace. Even if they win, the Heat are exposed. Unless Riley gets younger players, the Heat are not in the NBA Finals next year, Riley or not.

Oh, and actually, Del Harris coached more than just the Lakers. I knew the Bucs, but I didn't know he coached the Rockets. So here is Del Harris revised. (if we are going by JUST when Del Harris coached them, Kobe was still a very green kid who didn't average over 15ppg with him. Kobe started to shine when Rambis took over the team and then excelled during Jackson's reign)
PG Nick Van Exel
SG Eddie Jones
SF Terry Cummings
PF Moses Malone
C Shaquille O'Neal
Bench PG Calvin Murphy, SG Kobe Bryant, G/F Robert Reid, F Earvin (Magic) Johnson, SF Cedric Ceballos, PF Ricky Pierce, F/C Elvin Hayes
I think we should set up some sort of tourny with this. I actually like this idea. Well, maybe not because Phil will always win, but then again it could get interesting.

i would prefer the Riles roster because of the versatility of positions, although a team with MJ and Shaq is just insane to think about.

To say I hate this son of a bitch is an understatement. I am too young to ever see him coach, but what he did in the 60's still eats at me. It's because of him that I can't say the Lakers have more titles than anyone else in the NBA. With that said, I'll throw Red Auerbach in here because I do feel he deserves his due. One thing I noticed putting this team together, he ran a damn small team, even for his era. Very interesting. I guess every great coach has that one thing, Red ran small teams, Riley switched his style to the team but always had tough D, and Jackson was the only coach to run the triangle.
I still wish at the end of the 2010 Finals, Jackson did this on the court.

I guess since I was looking at these, I notice both are only 10 deep and both are is missing back up forwards. So I just added a couple of players for each.
Phil Jackson:
G Kobe Bryant
SG Michael Jordan
SF Scottie Pippen (really the point guard in this line up, but then again the triangle doesn't need a real point guard)
PF Dennis Rodman
C Shaquille O'Neal
bench: PG John Paxson. PG Derek Fisher, SG Ron Harper, PF Horace Grant, F/C Pau Gasol, I'd add SF Rick Fox and F Toni Kukoc.
and
Pat Riely: (damn that's a tall starting line up)
PG Magic Johnson
SG Dwayne Wade
SF James Worthy
PF Patrick Ewing
C Kareem Abdul Jabbar
bench: PG Tim Hardaway, SG Michael Cooper, SG John Starks, PF Charles Oakley, C Alonzo Mourning, I'd add SF Jamal Mashburn and SF Jamaal Wilkes (how can you forget those two, they were amazing!)

that Riley team is best...far more balanced than Jackson's which is only heavy at SG

Riley vs. Red would have been a complete clash of styles. Even for his time, Red ran a small line up, and Riley always had a dominate center, so much so that Shaq isn't even in his starting lineup. It would be very interesting.
Phil's team only works because he runs the triangle. In this case Scottie would be the point guard, and when Michael or Kobe rest, you can put in Fisher or Paxon. What's funny is this would be similar to the 1995-1998 teams, as Harper was technically the starting PG, but Harper never played point guard, and it was Pippen who brought up the ball and distributed. Harper was only a PG in that he guarded the other team's PG. So it would be similar, only with Jordan and Bryant in your back court. So Phil's team would be a challenge as well as it would run similarly to the 1995-1998 teams. The only thing is that those teams had Jordan play the center position on offense, as the ball always went to Jordan in the paint. In LA, Shaq was the traditional triangle center and the ball was thrown into him for him to distribute or take himself. Forget Kobe/Shaq, MJ/Shaq would have HUGE problems on the same team. You might have to play more Gasol with Jordan and more Fisher with Shaq. Oh, that would all be trouble.
Not sure who I like out of everyone, but I am leaning Riley. Magic woul help all chemistry, and everyone on that team is rather balanced. Phil's team is basically the greatest triangle roster ever, but it would be a bitch to manage all of that.
