I know you guys dont care coz its not a black thing or mexican thing......or an oversea's thing...but come on now this name has been in debate for years and years. The money and race that is behind the orginization (city/state) kept it out of the media eye. How did they and Why did they hide it for so many years??!!??...
Apperently you guys are just gettin wind of this, so thats why I make the thread.
I mean eminem and yelawolf call each other whiteboy and we all even say it, right ? Some of you rich white kids get offended by it, maybe becoz u have no heritage or culture and this is something to make yourself feel meaningful in life.
I dont care that 80% of washington wants name to stay, you got a whole Race thats been wanting the name changed for Years !
Why not, washigton black heads, ched heads, whiteskins, yellow skins....etc

What they are really affraid of is that Natives do call each other Skin or Redskin in jest, similar to Blacks and the N word.
They dont want us to stand or have a dog in the fight, theyr still bitter about us beating the US Army, u guys problly didnt know this but yeah we Native American "indians" did. Only ones in history to beat the us army..... thats why they took what was sacred to Natives and put 4 big white heads on it, u know of it as Mount Rushmore. To everyone overseas if u want to see real racism come to America and visit South Dakota and North Dakota.... ohhhh, i was a kid and walked into dennys resturaunt and all these white people did was stare and give dirty looks, we ordered but didnt eat or pay. So many unsolved murders and rapes on the Reservations its depressing. Still as racist today as it was then.

Ps columbus did not discover america but yet they wont correct it in the school books and everytime they bring his name up it some how becomes a topic about Natives. That was quite the rant. With that said, the name has a pretty nasty origin. Do you actually think people want it changed to suppress natives further? From an outsiders perspective US sports make a complete mockery out of Native Americans. You got the Indians with their red faces and goofy grins, Braves fans doing their chops chant etc. I grew up a fan of the "Fighting Illini" and they had a mascot dressed up as an Indian dancing all over the place like a complete fucking clown.Your rant doesn't really make sense to me though. Do you actually think black people would want a team full of people that weren't black called the "Niggas" or something like that? Redskins seems worse of all because of the organization's history of treating Natives like shit yet you seem to take pride in it and put people wanting to change it in the same breath as US school systems telling kids that Columbus discovered America LOL

I was going to post on this, but knew the trolls will come out at night, and there are only a few things I feel are worth a debate with them. So with that said, the Redskins name is HIGHLY offensive. As a huge sports fan, there are some things I've just accepted, like the Blackhawks, or the Braves, though I hate that chop thing and they are my second least favorite baseball team. What are my least favorite pro-sports teams are the Redskins and the Indians. I really hope that someone changes those names soon.
As for the Res. Growing up in California, my mom use to visit her friends at the Res. all the time. This was the 80's, pre-Casinos. Casinos have brought their own problems, but pre-casino there was nothing there. It was empty. My mom was half Apache, my dad is half Southern Paiute, the other half of both is Mexican. Things are still bad, and what's sad is since the people have ignored these issues, it's getting worst. Now I live in Minnesota, and there are HUGE issues, especially in urban Indian communities. I have no idea where to even start with healing all these problems, but it makes matters worst when you have professional teams who basically insult the community.
I will say this, maybe pro sports should do what college did. In college, they had to get permission from the local tribes, or maybe a majority of tribes. So the Redskin name will be debated by Native tribes and then voted on, or the Indians or Braves. In the case of the Blackhawks, you'd have a vote from the Sauk tribe. In college, they had to get permission from the local tribe, which is why UND had to change their name, as the Sioux tribe rejected the University using the name, but FSU is still allowed to use the Seminole name, as the Seminoles gave the school permission to use their name. I can't imagine the name Redskins or Indians surviving, and the way the Braves and KC Chiefs have mocked the Native community, they'd be in trouble too.

I grew up a Redskins fan and the name was never thought of a racial slur. Of course I'm a white guy so my opinion doesn't matter on the subject. The local tribe in Richmond says they would be offended if the name was changed, what of their opinion?

we got tons of native's up here in Maine (i live 15 min away from a reservation) and I never hear anyone complaining about the name redskins
only the faggot PC liberals are pushing for the name change...and a few random, attention-starved drunk indians like the thread starter. people have bigger problems than what a football team name is.
where's the cry about the Cleveland Indians? is it any different because they named their team after a former indian player? (Chief Sockalexis...product of Old Town, Maine)

The Seminoles have a contract with the native Seminole tribe, that's their ticket.
It's not just Redskin they are trying to change it's Indians, Braves, yes even the Chiefs. Soon, Jeep will be fighting to keep Cherokee.

Yet you have the right to be offended by the name Redskins? Is that not a double standard? And yes, the historical context etc, but if youre going to stick up for whats "right", maybe stay consistent.
Holy shit so many other things about this post.
1. Hilarious that youre using malcom x (a dude who said some racist shit in his day) as comfort to you as youre offended by this "racism"
2. Money and race has nothing to do with "keeping this out of the media". If you knew anything about the media today, youd realize they love a good scandal involving race and political corectness. Ever think that not that many people are really as offended as you?
3. No school teachers have taught that columbus discovered anything but his own ass for YEARS. This is a myth, meant to make the US look like a bunch of morons.
4. Being mad at the US and whites for shit that happened in the past, especially since that same govt has payed for years and in the billions to the natives and to this very day, isnt gonna getcha anywhere man. I understand youre offended, but not that many people look at it the way you do (the redskin name).

Here's my beliefs on this. Since i'm double oppressed-black/native american. It was stupid that the illini no longer have their indian mascot logo & the fighting sioux had to change something about them >:( I don't find the names chiefs, braves, or warriors offensive. What was offensive of the warriors was that in the 90's they were always injury prone. Redskins, can be considered an offensive name. What was mainly offensive to me was those butt-ugly cardinal/maroon pants they wore all the time. It was alright when they wore it with the same color jerseys. I felt that if they got rid of those pants & never wore them again for all of eternity, they can keep the redskin name. I still hate the redskins, but just a whole lot less when they wear white or yellow gold pants.
That's not the main reason I hate the redskins, it was mainly because in the 80's & 90's they won all the time + beat the teams I wanted to see win in the playoffs & the super bowl. Hated them the most from 82-88 >:( And the deserve every bad thing they get 4 that. Same thing goes for frisco & denver also.
Here's why I feel that the redskins name won't be changed. Because of the great rivalry with dallas. Cowboys/indians. My favorite rivalry game to watch since 1982. Rivalry won't be the same if it was cowboys/red storm, redhooks, redhawks, red claws, seminoles, or federals[usfl name]. Washington Blackhawks?! Not bad, just add black to their current color scheme. Just as long as they don't name themselves the bullets like these ass backwards DC natives want done with their nba team. The cleveland indians??? Their old logo in the middle of last century was offensive. The logo & colors could use a change badly. Maybe the cleveland curse will finally break if they do.
