Congrats to Homer Bailey, who also threw a no-hitter last year.

And boy is the NL west a terrible division.

rockies lineup is great with tulo healthy but he always gets hurt

dodgers are playing up to their potential now that Hanley is back  (Hanley is the best SS in baseball) and Puig obviously.  too bad Kemp and Gonzo aren't living up to their end.

The Rockies are terrible and just playing above their heads. They've got some nice pieces in Cuddyer, Fowler, Gonzalez, Tulowitzki and Arenado from time to time but overall they're not very good. A poor pitching staff and they play in a joke stadium that's built on top of mountain where the ball just flies out of the ball park. It looks awesome when it's covered in snow though IMO.

The Dodgers are starting to pick it up but I'm not sure if I'm ready to declare them a good team. They've still got the nightmare that is Ethier, but at least they finally made Jansen their closer. If they can get a solid number 2 starter or a very good number 3 guy (Cliff Lee?) I'm sold.

And personally I think the D-Backs have best chance of winning the division as of right now, they've been terrible but I personally think they're the most "complete" team with a solid pitching staff and a lot of nice hitters (Goldy!). They just need Montero to heat up and some bullpen help.

I will give this division credit though. It's given us almost all of the brawls that happened this year and those are always fun to watch.

The Giants need some more starting pitchers. Like how the Mets can only win with Harvey on the mound, the Giants can only win when Mad-Bum's on the mound. Now if only they hadn't traded away Zach Wheeler...

this is true

timmys gonna find himself in the bullpen soon and truthfully he'd probably be better there anyway if judging him on last postseason means anything, he killed it from there

Question is, do the Giants have another pitcher who can replace Lincecum in the rotation?

anyone can be better than 4-9 with a 73 ERA+ at this point

but lincecum can probably be a great 2-3 inning guy out of the bullpen

That's easier said than done. Not too many teams will be sellers this year and the Giants might be hard pressed to find somebody who'd be willing to take their trade offer. Teams like the Astros, Marlins and Cubs that are currently in rebuilding mode are going to want prospects, and the Giants system has been very weakened after trading away their top prospects for Beltran and Pence. Gary Brown's stock has plummeted and losing Kyle Crick could be a crippling blow for the Giants future, especially if they're going to waste it for a few months of Bud Norris or Ricky Nolasco. And if what the Phillies and Marlins allegedly have asked for is any indication they're also going to want money. The Giants would have to take on the contract of whoever they get for the rest of the year themselves, send the team they traded with some bonus cash along with the player(s) and maybe even some of their international draft pool money.
To put it simply, the Giants are going to have to give up a leg and an arm to get more pitching, and that'll probably hurt them more than help them.

And right after that post a theoretical trade popped up in my head.

Phil Hughes and a player to be named later for Hunter Pence and cash.
The Giants need pitching and Hughes could potentially benefit from playing that ballpark that forgot to add space for the bullpen until the last minute and the Yankees need a impact right handed batter. More importantly one that can continue to help even after A-Rod, Jeter, Granderson, Nunez and Cervelli come back.

But the marlins have good reasons & a good excuse.  The owner broke up the team with a fire sale...TWICE!  Sucks that they did it but the fans didn't wanna come out until they got to the world series so they should mainly blame themselves.
