Strange..
The Detroit Pistons and Josh Smith have agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth $56 million, Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
According to Wojnarowski, the Atlanta Hawks were hopeful to complete a sign-and-trade with any team interest in Smith but the Pistons’ vast salary cap space allowed Smith to sign outright with the team. Smith, an unrestricted free agent, can’t officially sign his deal with the Pistons until the NBA’s moratorium is over on July 10.
Smith had been rumored to be a target of the Houston Rockets to complement prized free agent Dwight Howard. Smith and Howard were once teammates at the AAU level in their hometown of Atlanta.
Smith, 27, averaged 17.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season with the Hawks.

Pretty sure they did try. This is strange though, I'm not pretending to be an expert on the Pistons roster by any stretch but that team has been complete shit since those playoff runs in the early-mid 2000's. I guess bringing Gay in helps.

maaaaan give us a cpl years to get our chemistry down we gon be IN IT.
by IN IT of course i mean the lottery just kidding....playoffs niggas.
-
last year i remember the pistons being a legit force was 07-08 when my celtics beat them in the playoffs (i think rasheed made a guarantee that backfired)

DETROIT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR. MOST SLEPT ON TEAM IN THE LEAGUE ON THE COME UP......ALSO HAD A GREAT DRAFT.
-
Detroits the new Atlanta, they'll have a decent regular season and possibly snag a bottom playoff spot in a weak bottom-half Eastern conference. Im mad tho, as a Hawk fan and J-Smoove fan, if we couldnt keep him then I would've love to see him goto a legit contender.. IMO LAL would have been a perfect spot. NOW, if Detroit can land Rondo they may be on to something..

Drummond was projected to best player of the draft entering his final year at UConn. Something happened and his stock fell, but son is a beast.
