Title: Why All The Hype Over Kendrick´s Verse?
Post by: 123imagee on August 15, 2013, 09:09:43 AM
Quote
But this is hip-hop and them niggas should know what tiAnnotateme it is
And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale
Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake
Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller
I got love for you all but I'm tryna murder you niggas
Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas
They dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas

What´s A Big Deal About That Verse? That´s NOTHING Mindblowing, Btw: Is He Dissin/"Murdering" Rappers That Are On The Same Track With Him?
He Said "Murder You" BIG FUCKIN DEAL!

"How To Rob" Was Way More "In-Yo-Face"-Than This, "NY87", "Westside Slaughterhouse",etc.

I think because he claimed the crown of NY and basically told everyone to step up their game. It's like he expressed everyone frustration with Hip-Hop in one verse. At the same time, he basically sad id everyone's sleeping, he's gonna claim all the crowns he can get.

that Kendrick verse was harder than any verse from any Death Row artist

Because he shit on New York and said there's no one worthy of being a "king" there. Then he told the "hottest mcees" to step up their game. He's light years ahead of all those new artists he named. His aggressive delivery was tough to ignore on the track. He's hungry, I wouldn't call it kendrick's best work but it's his most controversial to date since he blew up. I like the fact that he did it. He's only doing himself good, more promo for his album which is still selling extremely well. Pushing to get platinum real soon

those aint the hottest emcees, tho...he needs to call out rappers who can actually go toe-to-toe with him ala locksmith n shit, not these cotton candy ass rappers who he knows wont say shit. big krit and pusha t are the best rappers he named, and they aint even the ultra lyrical type to begin with.

the guys he called out are just basically all the guys hes cool with in the industry, really.  The best part was the end was he was talking about the pilot and condom as dread using it as a parachute or something.  The verse WAS sick, and Im a huge kendrick fan, but I think people were blowing this up way too much.

This has to be highlighted for how true this was. Mystikal was a fuckin' BEAST in the 90's and he was the main reason many people bought a No Limit CD.

It's because most new hip-hop fans, that are teenagers, have never heard a rapper
really diss anyone else before on a mainstream level, so it's this big, new, amazing thing
to a lot of today's audience.

If you work out the numbers...
if you're a 16 year old hip-hop fan right now, who was born in 1997:

--You would have been 8 years old when Game and 50 were beefing.
And that was the last really big major mainstream beef I can think of...

--You would have been 4 years old when Nas ethered Jay-Z.

--You would have been a 1 year old when Canibus dissed LL.

--You would have been born a year AFTER 2Pac dissed Biggie.

--When Dre and Eazy were making diss records, you would not be born until 5 years later.

So kids into Kendrick and all these new guys are like, "whoooa, someone DISSED
someone, that's insane!!"

To everyone else though, especially any older hip-hop fans, it seems like the tamest thing ever.

That's a damn good point. I was 16 in 1996/97. So to me when 2Pac dissed Biggie, that was HUGE. Yeah I was 12/13 in 1993 when Dre and Eazy were going at each other, and that was the greatest ever at the time. It made me go to my cousins and copy all his NWA and Eazy E tapes. But I think when 'Pac's and Biggie's beef not only hit LA, but spread to NY that was even bigger. Eazy and Dre was regional and it made you chose, but 'Pac/Biggie gave everyone a common enemy. I even remember when 300 Bars played on Wild 96 in the IE the day after the internet leak dropped, and everyone in San Bernardino right away went into Fuck NY/Fuck G-Unit mode without even thinking. It's like these things unify people right away. Right now Kendrick just unified all of New York to be like "yo B, you cool but you ain't from New York." That's the shit that's been missing. This is tame compared to past beefs, but it shakes up the game and gets people in the booth.

Yeah, that's true, and focusing on being lyrical and clever with it,
rather than just trying to make a hit or a club record...

What's sad though is I see so many comments (on other sites) where new fans don't
understand the battle element of hip-hop...

I see kids saying that the people dissing Kendrick are "haters" and citing record sales
and "relevancy" and all this other stuff instead of just seeing it as good competition...

It's like many new hip-hop fans don't even know what battle rapping is!

These kids were brought up during the Bling Era, where when someone dissed Jay, he never said shit and just said he's platinum and the other haters aren't. So these kids see Jay as the greatest of all time, so that's the example they are going with. They don't remember Nas crushing Jay and taking the crown. Those with the money make the rules and Jay reshaped the rules so people forget he hasn't been King of New York for at least 10 years.

I agree it is good but a little overhyped...I don't think it really compares to Kurupts battle verses in the mid 90's...

But it's like the night Kobe scored 61 at the Garden. It don't matter it's over hype. When you call out New York, they take it personal. New York has an attitude that it don't mean shit unless it happens in New York. Like when players are stars, New Yorkers will say, "they ain't done shit at the Garden. Well this is Kendrick Lamar going to Madison Square Garden, scoring 61 points and then saying, I'm the King of this place. UCLA in the 90's beat all 3 big Texas teams (at the time) in one year, Texas, A&M and Houston. At the end of the season UCLA had UCLA, Texas station champion shirts. That's what this was.

I think I got a win. I know I had the lead one time, and then a ton of your friends voted last minute. That might have been my best diss to you. For some reason every time we battled officially (I think like 3 times) I couldn't do a better verse than usually the warm up verse I had done to get the battle going (see Scitt Killaz 1-3) and when we battled you always dissed my sister, who everyone hated at the time so they voted for you. It was very frustrating to say the least.

Edited: now that I remember, that battle set up a new rule on the keystyle board. LOL I remember the people battling could set up ahead of time who CAN'T voted on the battle... LOL... that rule was in effect for like 2-3 month because of that battle. It was funny. Well I did beat a dude named Immortal in a loser deletes his account battle, and I'd easily say Immortal was better than me on most post. So weird things do happen.

Then I also remember the HUGE problem with biting, not by you but by others. It was some serious shit.

This is typical ihp-hop, specifically hip-hop forums, thing.

Divide hip-hop fans in half. Half of them will always dislike, hate, call overrated on things that become popular. The other half will always dickride, follow what's popular.

Guess which half most people here fits in? When most people here got into hip-hop most of what you guys liked the people from the previous generation disliked, no matter how talented. Just go check
the history of Dubcnn for example.

People here want the West Coast to blow but when it did/does (Game, TDE etc) people here are quick to call it overrated, wack or something else. Everybody has the right to their opinions of course but most
of it is based on how popular or well liked they are and alot of misinfo.

Face it, most people here wont like anything unless is what they like or have been conditioned to like (Ie. G-funk era etc.) and we rewind the game to the 90's.

To start I had an Eazy E flow. I use to brag about that too. But I did beat you on the WCA board when I ghostwrote for my sister... LOL... that was funny. You were so pissed off. But even people on this board thought I she won. And that's when you were about 15. You must have smoked yourself crazy at some point though, because our main battles happened 2003-2004, at that time you were what, 16-18, around that age. I was 22-24.

I think because he claimed the crown of NY and basically told everyone to step up their game. It's like he expressed everyone frustration with Hip-Hop in one verse. At the same time, he basically sad id everyone's sleeping, he's gonna claim all the crowns he can get.

yep...

and to add to that ...

he's sayin from now on aint nomore playing around on these tracks...my next feat on your album im destroyin you..

like em did jay(renegadez)...
killer mike did outkast(whole world, snappin n trappin, flip flop rock)...
big k.r.i.t did asap rocky ( 1 train..and that song had some spittas on it includin kendrick)
andre300 did rick ross(sixteen) and ti ( sorry)
bun b did jay z ( big pimpin)
suga free did snoop( trust me)
mystikal did to all of his no limit appearances(..people bought most of those no limit albums because mystikal was gone wreck it)

I'd also add that every time outkast and UGK did a track together UGK outshined them. (Tough guy, intl. players anthem)
