Funny.. I remember seeing this video before and I could of sworn it was on some VH1 or MTV special on Dre. Maybe they didn't get the memo, or maybe my memory is off.
Anyway.. thanks for the info... also another major fact about 1982 is that was the year Infinite was born!

Who's Infinite?

dre had his house burnt down and was shot at?

He wasn't shot AT. He was shot. The shooter hit him.

Yeah, Dre and RBX talked about this shooting in the "VH1 Behind The Music: Dr. Dre" documentary. I hope somebody has it on their computer, i can't find it on Youtube.

Theres a part of me that thinks he never, ever intended to drop detox after 2001 anyway and first it was used as promo tool for Em, 50 and anyone else around at the time like Slim, Bishop etc.. Sure he recorded tracks but most of them were just given away to other artists/projects. Then him and Jimmy cooked up the whole Beats/look out for Detox idea and 300 mil later here we are:

Its coming baby, youve got more chance of seeing the real 2Pac walking along the street than you've got of hearing that album.
-
I've never believed in that whole idea of Detox not being real and only used as a promotional tool because it just doesn't work as such. It just doesn't add up as a viable theory.

I doubt Dre got in incredible shape just to appear in the I Need a Doctor vid for Em either
Dre was on the edge of coming back as a solo artist. One last time.

Well, "I Need A Doctor" wasn't for Em. It was a Dre track but I see what you're saying.
I think people are so "conspiracy theory" crazy that nothing is believable anymore and rather than just going with the most obvious conclusion based on the evidence, they dream up these wild theories about how record labels operate. I feel like Dre has always been serious about wanting to make "Detox" but given the classic catalog he has to compete with, his perfectionist nature, and the hype mixed with the long-ass wait, he has sort of created a no-win situation for himself. There was a time when it was very rare for him to appear on songs he did not produce and putting out albums on his label without at least a couple songs produced by him was unheard of.
In the last few years, he has put out two test singles for "Detox" with no production credit from him. He showed up as a narrator and made guest appearances on Game's "R.E.D. Album" but didn't do any credited production. Ditto for last two Aftermath releases from Eminem and Kendrick. The Em one you can kind of accept because Eminem is a big enough star to where Dre's involvement is no longer a must but having a new artist on his label put out a project without a single beat from him was a little odd.

All part of the campaign to get the sites talking, people clicking - its all promotion at the end of the day and who cares when someone else is paying anyway.
Detox is more like an overdose. Of advertising.
Lets watch Dre crash his Ferrari. Now Dre is hospital surrounded by HP products that may bring him back to life. Quick get the HP phone in the shot, here comes Em. Look at the big white watch on the big white rappers arm, give the man a hand he wants to help Dre back. Hooray, Dre's OK - Thanks to his KSwiss shoes says the lady typing it up on a Beats HP laptop. Uhoh, Dre's looking thirsty after his creativity coma, quick get him some Gatorade. Yeah. Detox baby.

That was the con all along. Well, maybe not all along but thats what this album evolved into - a marketing charade thats fuelled by "leaks" that neither feature Dre, nor are produced by him. Tell me I'm wrong - but only if you can figure out why the "lead singles" didn't even feature his own production...

Product placement in music videos is nothing new tho

I may be funny here for this but if yall follow right producers and rappers on Twitter yall can see he's cooking something and they all are saying something big is coming in 2014. They went to Hawaii, whole Aftermath team with Dre. Nah that's not new KDot or Jon Connor or Xzibit who's it seems got signed to Aftermath. Yeah he announced new album Vanguard and he already has Dre on a track with Jon Connor there, and few of them produced by Dre. If it was 00's I would say he's gon' executive produce new Xzibits album give it a lot of promotion like only Dre can do and thats gon be intro and test for Detox. Lately hes been in Xs company too much and X got him to sign Jon there. Best believe they're preparing something big.

I explained this years ago. Detox was first used to bring attention to other Aftermath releases, then it was used for the Beats by Dr. Dre line of products.
It's a myth.

Cuz he lost his touch and he knows it.

Especially given that they probably need to pay for about 13 years worth of studio sessions.

It's a myth.
I know, I remember like it was yesterday. All those people trampled outside malls and CD shops across the country because people were rushing to get "Before I Self Destruct" after hearing some rough-sounding reference track for a Dr. Dre song. It was one of the most brilliant marketing ploys ever conceived. And remember in 2008 when they didn't put out any new albums at all. Artists would do random interviews talking about Detox and fans would just get in their cars and start driving around aimlessly not knowing what to do at all. Gas sales went through the roof. I mean, it's just common knowledge that mentioning "Detox" makes people buy Aftermath albums. I mean, there's just staggering logic in this well-thought-out theory that no sane person could ever deny it.
