Despite there being like 997768769554434546789 threads about T.I., I'm surprised (and at the same time not very surprised) to see that one wasn't made for Blurred Lines.

IMO this song sucks.
Robin Thicke comes off as a piss poor man's Justin Timberlake.
T.I.'s verse comes and goes and quite frankly serves no purpose.
Pharallel's parts just make me want to stop this track and listen to Get Lucky instead.
The beat's kind of nice and swings but the vocals ruin it. Plus it's not as good as other throwbacks like Get Lucky or Bruno Mars' Treasure.
But this section is dead so let's stimulate some discussion.

joint was dope. 8)

The unrated video was tight. Pharrell and TI mailed in their lame verses. Song is catchy though.
-
Dude 1) you are late as fuck 2) this was huge, and still is in current rotation on urban/pop radio 3)i fucking love this song, how can you hate?
-
At one point in the video Robin Thicke is licking an ice cream cone, chocolate ice cream, just as a subtle nod to the black chicks like, "yeah, I eat black pussy, let me know)
-
Dope song (vid too). Except i would kick out T.I.
This reminds me alot of Justin Timberlake - My Love, in both we got:
-dope producer
-simmilar singer
-T.I. fuckin all up

I know how late this thread is and how unavoidable this song was in 2013. But this forum's still in 1997, plus it's not like anybody else made a thread for this or was going to make one. Since the Grammys just passed I thought I'd make one anyway.
Anyway if you like this song, great. I personally don't like it.
When I first heard it I was like "meh" but the more I listened to it (whether by choice or not) it got worse and worse.
Like I said, Robin Thicke sounds like a poor man's Justin Timberlake. He's a caucasian man, he collaborated with T.I. and Pharrell and he doesn't talk to former N'Sync members. All he needs to do now is collaborate with Timbaland and the Lonely Island and appear on SNL. If I wanted to listen to JT I'd go listen to Suit & Tie (which was just as huge and unavoidable in my area).
Plus in the song Thicke is a desparate drunk guy who keeps bothering some random girl at the club who's too nice to just tell him to fuck off. Which is fucking lame.
For me the charm of this song basically begins and ends with the beat. And that's probably because it sounds like a rip off of an old Marvin Gaye classic.

I thought it was pretty good as far as radio songs go.
-
the song and the album have been talked about before, Matty made threads about them. the "the forum is stuck in 1997" line really gets old.

I did a quick search before I made this thread and another one before I started typing this post and there weren't any threads regarding this song or the album, or any that were started by Matty. I think you're mistaking it for Daft Punk's Get Lucky/Random Access Memories. Which is a crime against humanity.

no I wouldn't lol, there's not much in common between Daft Punk and Robin Thicke, except for Pharrell's contribution to their 2013 single.

but my bad, the thread wasn't started by Matty. honestly I like the song, very catchy and well put together.
I think there's a trend in popular music (and in underground music also) which has developed and which consist in bringing back funk inspired sounds (although that term is very vague) and maybe echoes people's weariness of being served bullshit by the radios. I fuck with Robin Thicke's song, Bruno Mars's treasure (despite the blatant Breakbot bite), JT's Take Back the Night, etc.
in terms of funk, without even going to deep into it (see modern funk thread), Daft Punk's album was decent (get lucky is a classic), Tuxedo's project was mind blowing, and Mayer Hawthorne's album was decent as well.
