Haha it's funny as hell. Death Row was bringing always bad things and even these years later it's the same with catalogue.

I would assume it would be whoever owns the label and its catalog at this point.

Didn't he just sue them?

Didn't he just sue them?

He did and he lost that lawsuit, just like he will lost that one also. He signed a agreement with Suge back in 1996 so there's no way he can actually think, he's going to get his royalties back. With WideAwake he only managed to get "Chronic Re-Lit" off stores and that's it. If he wants make money off his Death Row shit, he needs to buy that fuckin' catalog for himself and re-release "The Chronic" with Interscope for the rest of his life. That's probably the only way to get money off his old stuff :)

You would think Dre would have enough money to just buy off Death Row and re-release everything and even add some new remixes of like 2Pac or something. Dude makes about as much in a month selling headphones as Death Row is worth right now. Imagine the digital sales of a "Beats Quality" version of the Chronic. (I know that Beat Quality doesn't really exist, but people will eat that up and buy it anyways.) If Dre bought Death Row, re-released everything "Beats Quality" and watch people eat that up. Throw in Chronic editions of Beats headphones. Dre, just buy Death Row already!

The last lawsuit made sense. Death Row had rights to release the Chronic via vinyl / cassette / cd. They were selling it on iTunes, they technically had no rights to sale mp3s of his music.

What's this one about?

Just checked on Amazon and you cannot get Re-lit at a reasonable price.

The Re-Lit issue was about something else. The royalty one has been an ongoing situation. Dre has always owned his publishing on his Death Row material and even though, he doesn't own the masters, his deal with Suge when he left supposedly entitled him to profits off his catalog over there. I would assume this current lawsuit has something to do with this as he's been chasing proper royalty payments since the late 90's.

22 bucks (plus shipping) for a brand new sealed CD is a bad price for a CD that's been OOP for 4.5 years now?  lol   that shit was over 50 bucks for the longest time so i just had to order a back up copy when i saw it at 22 bucks (18 + shipping)

Its ironic how the E1 Entertainment label thought they were buying a good publishing catalog investment when on the contrary they simply bought ssomeone's ( Suge Knight ) debt.

As for Dr. Dre producing is no longer making money so in order of keeping up with the Jones next door suing is the new trend in profitable means of the biz. So who can blame him right?

    1. he doesn't need the money
    2. this is more about principle
    3. he will not see any of that 3 million if anything he will get some of deathrows catalog instead of monetary compension which is more of win the 3 million

CPO says he's still getting paid 'mechanicals' (i.e. writing credits) for 'Picture Me Rolling' off of 'All Eyez On Me' by Universal Publishing to this day.

And the first cheque he got (when he became broke enough to go asking for it) was a little over $37,000 back in 2000 - just for that one verse.

So yeah, there's cake on the table forever.

People are asking, "Does Deathrow have that much money?"
Y'all dudes need to catch up. The answer is HELL YES THEY HAVE THAT MUCH MONEY! Do you know how much record companies make off of an artist's catalog? Especially one like Dr. Dre's? How do y'all think Michael Jackson was able to keep making paper and buying animals for his zoos and sh*t? Off of that Beatles catalog, that's how. Add to the fact that most of the artists don't have any system in place to track their album sales after the fame is gone. And with the internet and that overseas market? The record companies make a killing!
Do your thing Dr. Dre. Get what they owe you.

smh now that e1 took over and im guessing suge is out the picture everyone coming for them owed wages lol ... sn i thought dr dre walked away from it all giving up his masters royalties and all ?????? so how can he come back years later and get this $$ unless since e1 took over it voided his original release from the label contract ??

So Malik, do you honestly feel that Death Row Records would have reached the iconic level that it reached had Dr. Dre NEVER been involved?
