who haz had biigger impact on rap? #voteordiebitch
-
Not including NWA years....
Dre 2 solos > Cubes solo catalogue
Also in terms of longevity Dres music is pretty timeless (all his leftover grade shit was never good doe)
Whereas Cubes potty mouthed nursery-rhyme sounding, mysoginisyic, pseudo political, shock value racist etc etc raps sound dated as hell now.

Cube hasn't really been all that relevant since lethal injection really, as a soloist i mean. Of course the west side connection was a big deal. Cube made mack 10 big, etc. His come back double album was kind of a big deal. I know "we be clubbin" and "put your back into it" were both pretty big.
I dunno, Ice cube was so huge for years but i don't think beyond the early-mid 90's.
That first album he did for years i remember was really well received (i forget the title). Was a great album and everyone seemed hyped but then it fizzled out.
Ice cube has more memorable singles and hits than Dre probably but dres albums had a bigger, longer lasting effect IMO.
Plus Dre introducing Snoop and DPG and starting deathrow cant really be fucked with.
And lets not mention the impact of Eminem(dre co sign/production).
Look at how much Detox was anticipated compared to any ice cube album for the last 10 years.

dre gave snoop, eminem, 50cent to the rap world.
Cube give Short khop (who??) and mack 10.
end of a story.
-
But Cube pushes rhymes like weight... a-yay-yayyyyyyy

lol, right i almost forget.

Cube is better mc than Dre. Dre is only Great producer. Cube is Great mc, songwriter, story teller and actor. Cube is more different men
-
DRE!
Just as a rapper Dre had more impact then Cube. Obviously not as a writer, but The Chronic alone is better than all of Cube's albums combined. Then on NWA Dre was sharing time on the mic and was still doin it big on EFIL4ZAGGIN after Cube turned on his homies and started fuccin wit East Coast niccaz
-
its not really a fair comparison really as Dre is a producer
ive seen a lot of you write that Cube has not been relevant since Lethal Injection which means he was relevant for 4 albums
which is double the amount of albums Dre has released (unless you count "Been there, Done That which is relevant to nothing).
if you take away Dre's productions and put him on the same field as Cube then id say Cube has done more and had a bigger impact.
But with Dre's productions and people he has brought forward then Dre wins by a mile but like i say...its not a fair playing field
-
the fact that we won't ever know who REALLY produced doggystyle and 2001 kinda looms over Dre's legacy to the hardcore hip hop head
we know he was the man behind the first two NWA albums and the Chronic...but after that what did he REALLY do? besides California Love and Been There, Done That
2001 is credited to Dre but how much can you forgive Dre for never writing any of his own rhymes? dudes like RZA, Pimp C and Large Professsor can make dope ass beats and write their own shit which hurts Dre.
I honestly don't think Dre has ever written any significant portion of his rhymes in his entire career sadly. Although he is a dope rapper.

Arabian Prince. Obviously.

"We Be Clubbin" weren't on neither one of those albums and there's no song that's called "Put Your Back Into It", the name of the song is "You Can Do It".

Bigger impact?
Dre
Best Artist?
Cube
Cube is in alot rappers top 10 dead or alive, how many have dre in their top 10 rappers? Yea i thought so...

Eh i haven't been a big cube fan since i was like 12. I know "we be clubbin" was from the players club "OST" i dunno where the other one was from. "hello" was a pretty big deal at the time too but i guess more so because N.W.A and the Dre production.
Still seems strange to me that Dre could some really personal songs and verses and they not be written at all by him?
Ice cube being a racist makes me like him less than Dre also.

Hynas getting sensitive over Cube being "racist" haha. Hilarious....

I think I'd take both Chronic's over any two Cube albums. Not lyrically, but as total packages.
But to answer this question, Dre by a landslide. Two classic albums, GOAT producer, produced classic albums, worked with Pac, gave us Snoop, Em & 50.
The beats on Relapse is more than Cube has offered Hip Hop in over a decade lol.

ice cube worked with Pac too
granted "any last words" was far from as impacting on rap as Cali Love lol
