I certainly didn't see that coming given how many outfielders they have already, but I suppose they plan on either using Gardner or one of their other outfielders as trade bait down the line.
-
Solid signing. Gotta figure on Beltran and Jacoby missing games this year and the next. Good to keep a solid player cheaply, and not forfit a pick to sign someone else. But there could be a trade in the works too. We really need a stud SS. Arizona??

Ellsbury-Gardner is going to be an amazing outfield tandem for years to come. sick ass defense 8)
I like this upcoming Yankees team already. But I'm pissed at Jeter for not playing 2 more years. smh.

No your not. He's going to be a horror show on defense and I'll wager he wont hit .275

I predict this year he'll end at .281 with 11 homers in 125 games. but he's like 65 years old coming off a major injury so I'll take .250 in 100 games lol

Yeah the injury is where I get the concern from in regards to Jeter, not necessarily his age. I'll be shocked if he hits .280.

i got faith in Jeter but i wanted him to play 2 more years to break some more records and still keep his lifetime average above .300

Everyone's been saying this and that about how the Yankees have too many outfielders now but in a few months from now we'll all see just how important having backups are when glass man Ellsbury gets hurt again and Beltran is either sidelined with a minor injury or is used (more often than not) as a DH.
Personally I do like this deal, it's basically a carbon copy of the Michael Bourn contract. And I'm not sure how many people realise this but as of this moment, Gardner is going to be the only homegrown Yankee in their starting lineup next year.

GArdner-Ellsbury-Beltran is gonna be the shit this year
Ichiro playing 2x a week at either corner spot will come in handy and Soriano is the full time DH who plays outfield once in a blue moon 8)

I could be wrong (like I usually am) but I kind of see Soriano and Beltran switching roles with eachother on a semi-frequent basis. I mean defensively the two are pretty evenly matched (at least the last time I compared their UZR's they were).
And oh yeah, that's another reason I like this deal. Soriano and Ichiro's contracts are up after this season and they'll probably either retire or go play for another team, meaning that if the Yankees hadn't resigned Gardner they would've had to overpay for a free agent, make Zoilo Almonte the starting right fielder or pray that one of their outfield prospects (Williams, Austin or Heathcott) is ready.

Is Gardner giving up the CF position to Ellsbury? Any word on that?

I assume so.

Damn, that's wack. Gardner used to kill it out at CF.
-
well you know Ellsbury isn't gonna play no 162 game schedule lmao
Garder will get a good 30 games at CF while Ellsbury is out or plays DH to rest
-
That is true. Ellsbury is well overdue for a 50 game season now lmao.
