Vladimir Putin's top aide Vladislav Surkov mocks US sanctions: 'The only thing that interests me about the US is Tupac, and I don't need a visa' for that

A top aide to President Vladimir Putin has laughed off the sanctions imposed by the US, saying the only thing he likes about America is Tupac, and he "doesn't need a visa" to listen to rap music.
Vladislav Surkov, one of the seven Russian officials slapped with White House sanctions, told a Russian newspaper being on America's blacklist is a "big honour" for him.
He added: "The only things that interest me in the US are Tupac Shakur, Allen Ginsberg, and Jackson Pollock. I don’t need a visa to access their work. I lose nothing."
Similarly, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, tweeted the sanctions appeared to have been drawn by "some pranksters" on behalf of "comrade" Obama.
Rogozin tweeted: "Comrade Obama... What will you do with those who have neither accounts nor property abroad? Or didn’t you think of that?"
The incendiary comments come shortly after Kremlin-backed television presenter Dmitry Kiselyov warned Moscow could turn the US "into radioactive ash" in a nuclear attack.
"Russia is the only country in the world realistically capable of turning the United States into radioactive ash," Kiselyov said standing in front of a large screen depicting a mushroom cloud produced by a nuclear explosion.

all the important Russian cities politically speaking are in Europe (except moscow), and most Russian oligarchs and politicians come from the European side of Russia. Asian Russia covers everything east of Mount Elbrus, the natural border between Europe and Asia, the rest being located in Europe.

the comparison isn't relevant. Alaska is an overseas territory, just like France has overseas possessions in the Carribean and in Africa, yet we don't consider none of these countries other than American and European, rightly so.
in Russia's case, it's way different, a good chunk of its mainland is situated in Europe, not only politically but also geographically, naturally if you will, as the urals are the natural border between Europe and Asia. whereas Alaska was bought, which is something altogether different.
what's more, Russia has been part of European politics for centuries, and culturally, Russia is as European as it gets.

Europe is a continent, not a country. and yea, Canada and Mexico are considered North America (also a continent)....a lot of Russia is located in the continent of Europe, this is no secret LOL...some parts are located in Asia, which technically makes the country fall under the Eurasian category, but it's considered more Europe than it is Asia.
oh, and if u aint heard the word Eurasia, just go read up on Russia a lil more

Just did a little Google research on the subject and it turns out that Russia is both Asian and European. I stand corrected. Just doesn't seem right though.

Most part of Russia is asian yet most important cities are located in european part of Russia.
Russian culture is more european than asian.
But Europe is not only a continent. When we say Europe nowadays we mostly mean European Union. Russia is not part of EU. What is more there is a conflict between Europe and Russia. Recent conflict in Ukraine is nothing but conflict between "going Europe" or "going Russia" when it comes to economy, culture etc.
So no... Russia is not Europe. To many differences.

European Union and Europe is a different thing. Slavs are from Europe yet Serbia, Albania and Russia are not in the EU, but still in Europe. The EU is just an economic partnership, not being member of it doesn't disqualify you from being in Europe. Like during the civil war, some states left the Union and joined the Confederacy, so states like Louisiana were not part of the USA (the political entity) anymore but were still located in America (the geographical region). It's the same for Russia except that they were never part of the Union to begin with since they were Communists when the capital, western infuenced European Union was created in 1957.
Bottom line is, you can twist this all you want, Russia's most populated regions are in Europe. The politically relevant part of Russia is in Europe, and Russia's decision makers are of European culture more than asian culture, and the fact that there's an on going conflict of interest between Russia and the European Union doesn't change that fact. so Russia is in Eurasia and in no way you can say that Russia is not part of Europe.

If we speak cultural history - yes, you are right. Russia is more european. If we speak of localisation - Russia is Eurasia.
But don't forget that we're living in the age of changes in europe. Russia goes in different direction than European Union. And nowadays European Union's territory takes almost whole European continent.
Hell.. i was speaking with some russian students that i met in my city few days ago... they were mostly like "we don't want your Europe in Russia". Well... they don't see themselves as europe citizens . They see themselves as Russians.
Russia is isolated from others. They got their own internet, their own facebook etc. They are far from Europe, far from western culture and they are isolated. On the other hand you got open borders in Europen Union, you just feel European when you can travel whole Europe without passport etc. That's the difference. Yes... in some ways they are in Europe... mainly geoplitically, but they are not part of modern Europe.
