"The back and forth of whether the Lakers will keep head coach Mike D’Antoni at season’s end swings from one extreme to the next on a seemingly daily basis. Today, the Lakers are leaning toward firing their head man at season’s end."

Good. But who would be realistic candidates for a replacement head coach?
-
george karl, stan/jeff van gundy, john calipari, mike krzyzewski, jerry sloan, kevin ollie, larry brown, rick adelman
gimme any of these over d'antoni wit the quickness

What a trainwreck this has turned out to be.

The first four you named are the most realistic ones, and I'll take any of them over D'Antoni in a heartbeat. I'd also take Lionel Hollins, or give Kurt Rambis/Byron Scott a one year trial run.
Coach K and now Kevin Ollie are championship coaches and the general rule of thumb with NCAA championship coaches is they have job security for as long as they want to coach (barring scandals). While they will always be intrigued by the concept of going pro as a coach, ultimately you'll never see them leave for the NBA because they won't be treated as Gods there and reality will creep in when they realize they might have to go job hunting shortly.
Coach Calipari WOULD fall into that category but he's a special case he is consistently has to look over his shoulders to avoid the NCAA for his past recruiting violations, which is why so many people actually believe he will leave for the NBA one day (like Pete Carroll's slimy ass did to USC).
Jerry Sloan and Larry Brown are too busy chilling (though I think we could get Brown if we pushed hard for him). And I think Adelman is stepping down as Wolves coach because he wants to take a break for a while, though there's a chance that Wolves are just letting him save face out of respect and that they would fire him if he wasn't willing to step down.

Byron scott, kurt rambis, Michael cooper...some laker loyalists who would replace mike d'antoni and instantly improve the team
lionell hollins too, I forgot about him
