No Cy Young? Walter Johnson? Warren Spahn? Old Hoss Radbourn? Pedro Martinez?
-
Nolan Ryan is the most over rated pitcher in the history of history. Pitched 50 years and never was the best pitcher in baseball any one season.

My top 5....
John Smoltz - grew up watching him on TBS in the days back when Deon Sanders played for the Braves. He used to blow guys away
Tom Glavine - same thing but finesse pitcher
Zack Grienke - won the Cy Young with Kansas City
James Shields - currenlty KC best pitcher
Randy Johnson - Can never forget when he single handedly lead Mariners into playoffs back in the day, I think they even had to play a one game playoff and I remember him doing it all from pitching out of the pen to starting like every 3 days or something crazy like that

Pedro Martinez?
Pedro in his prime was definitely the best pitcher I've seen in this generation.
-
Pedro's best 5 seasons stack up with ANYONE's best 5. particularly his 1997, '99 and '00 seasons.
problem is he didn't age gracefully and was never a workhorse

Word, he's a great example as far as never being able to project how a pitcher will be through the years. But definitely best pitcher I've ever seen in person, and I grew up watching Randy Johnson. Dude was unreal.

the best pitchers i've seen in person are Maddux (Cubs) and Clemens (final year with the Yanks). but both were past their primes.
-
Koufax
Clemens
Pedro
Randy
Mariano
-
1-Masahiro Tanaka
2-Walter Johnson
3-Randy Johnson
4-Roger Clemens
5-Greg Maddux
6-Pete Alexander
7-Bob Gibson
8-Lefty Grove
9-Tom Seaver
10-Pedro Martinez
11-Bob Feller
top 11 ever
Closers not included...we all know that Mariano is the best closer ever and nobody else is close. Not even Hoyt Wilhelm or Goose Gossage. I wish Mariano didn't retire so "Early".
-
Seeing as how everybody is posting lists, here's mine.
1. Cy Young
2. Walter Johnson
3. Grover Cleveland Alexander
4. Satchel Paige
5. Christy Matthewson
6. Charles Old Hoss Radbourn
7. John Clarkson
8. Jack Chesbro
9. Ed Walsh
10. Joe McGinnity
I win 8).

Riveras great, definitely the GOAT closer, but I don't know how you can mention him with the greatest pitchers of all time. Dude flat out failed as a starter.

failed? he had less than a full season to try. imagine if you said the same for Troy Aikmen as a QB after his first year lol
anyways Jack Chesbro? dude had that one great year but really??

Dude was more than a one-season wonder. He had a nice tenure in Pittsburgh and his Highlanders tenure (overall) was pretty great. He did have a few lousy seasons down the line but even if he didn't his 1904 season would still overshadow everything. Dude's in the HoF and one of the most underrated Yankee legends in history. Right up there with Wee Willie Keeler (yes, he was a Yankee/Highlander) and Lefty Gomez.

To be fair I was kinda speaking just off word of mouth, just heard he didn't do well. Like I said, Rivera's the GOAT closer and will be a well deserved hall of famer, just don't think you can say a closer was one of the greatest pure pitchers of all time.

I respectfully disagree. He's got mad innings under his belt and has the 11th lowest ERA of all time. The next closest modern day guy (understandably a starter should have higher ERAs but still) is Kershaw, who is 52nd lol.
