Title: Which, if any, Wide Awake release is your favorite/most listened to?
Post by: TraceOneInfinite on May 13, 2014, 07:20:42 AM
I think it's pretty dope that the LBC Crew album got released.  A lot of nice joints on that album....  I wasn't too impressed with some of the others, but I'm not like a lot of folks complaining about Wide Awake, because at least they opened the vaults and released a lot of music we may have never gotten otherwise.

lbc crew and danny boy

they should have included slip n slide OG & remix on Danny Boy's album though

Truthfully none of those albums had much replay value. The quality alone made it tough to make it through the first listen.

I would also have to go with the LBC Crew album.  It was a solid release, and also the closest to how it was conceived, when they released it.  Why they changed the Sam Sneed album to half new songs, is beyond me.  They also should have released the real "Say Hi to the Bad Guy" instead of "Hood Star."  That being said, I'm still grateful to them for at least releasing something.  We at least got to hear a lot of unreleased material.  I just wish more effort had been put into each release.

danny boy was surprisngly nice....lots of dj quik when he was in his prime on there. his remake of leroy huttons so in love is my fave song on there.

the 3 disc collection actually gets alot of burn and i liked the snoop and dpg projects a lil bit

i have an unopned copy of the chronic re lit they put out if anyone wants it ill take a hundo for it

my favorite??  probably Hood Star because I never had that Itunes bonus track  ;D

but as far as what has the most replay value?  has to be Lost Sessions 1

and the Ultimate Collection is the most vital release from them because of the 2nd and 3rd disc's containing a lot of gems and the 4th disc with a few harder to find videos at the time

if niggas would have put out sam sneeds album the way it was originally done it would EASILY be there best release but they added some new sounding bullshit and altered other tracks...it made for an awful listen when youve already heard the OG one.

I prefered releases from "For the People Ent." than Wideawake. The quality was far superior  ;D

The OG album was nothing that special you can see why it got shelved. Would've been nice to own if they released it tho

Pretty sure sam sneed asked for it to be put out the way it was by wideawake, as he didn't agree with the lyrical content of the og.

I liked almost all of the releases, dope to hear all those old songs. Kinda takes you back to the time when Hip Hop was still great...
My favorites were "The Lost Sessions" and the "Chronic Re-Lit" because of the bonus tracks. LBC Crew is also nice. Damn there no release I really dont like from Wideawake...
Anybody knows whats up with the new owners ? Are they just gonna let all the other unreleased songs rot in the vault ?  :'(

Wasn't aware that there were new owners.  I think given how badly Wideawake fumbled the ball, the chances of anyone else stepping up to invest in putting out that much unreleased material is unlikely. I would think whoever ends up with it next is just going to stick to the established catalog and not bother with the headache of dealing with whatever is in faults.  Could be wrong though.
