Title: New Jack Swing appreciation thread
Post by: bouli77 on May 13, 2014, 01:21:43 PM
I'm a huge New Jack afficionado and I fuck with everything remotely associated with LA & Reid, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Teddy Riley and other legendary producers from that era (DeVanté, Al B Sure), share songs you like, known and lesser known, and discuss albums let me start with a few of my favorites

I dont actively listen to the genre, but I can tell you that at every pizza party I went to between the ages of 5 and 8, new jack swing was the soundtrack.

I made a few NJS mixes last year.

Keith Sweat - "I Want Her" might be my favorite

Johnny Gill

Guy

The Jacksons - Michael & Janet's are obviously well known, but I thought the style really suited Randy pretty well too.

Damian Dame - R.I.P to both of them.

Today

Boyz II Men - Motownphilly was the big hit, but this was no slouch imo.

The Whispers
https://www.youtube.com/v/DRarrkoeHi8

LeVert R.I.P
https://www.youtube.com/v/bTIY3a5-v3c

Babyface & Toni Braxton
https://www.youtube.com/v/tLJPsHhcEOo

The only Boy George song I like.  The beat was originally for Bobby Brown, but he turned it down.

I was young during the New Jack era, but old enough to appreciate it.  I miss those days.

No doubt... great thread... New Jack Swing was what was really poppin when I was in the 5th and 6th grade and just getting into music, MTV/BET...  I can't recall a lot of in detail but I think Jade, SWV, "Hey Mr. DJ", and all that stuff was New Jack Swing right?  I mean I just remember a lot of hit singles coming out of that I had not really gotten into listening to albums yet just mostly the radio hits.

The only album I did have was I had the cassette tape of Wrex In Effect prod. by Teddy Riley.  They even had a whole joint on there that was like a New Jack Swing tribute... I just remember "New Jack Swing/ Check it out so funky"....

Good thread ya'll keep it goin
