Wow.. this is crazy... I feel like Christopher Columbus today... I just discovered this O.G. version of "Doggfather". It's a more funkier (and better IMO) version of the opening cut off Snoop's album that wasn't released until November 96', but yet this version was out when Pac and Kadafi were still alive so we are talking at least Summer of 96' if not sooner.

makes sense you'd compare yourself to a known racist like Columbus
RIP Kadafi btw

There isn't a comeback to that.
Trust me.. they always have a comeback (it just won't be legitimate). They are never at a loss for words hiding behind a computer screen they know they will never have to back up their bullshit.

I like the OG but this is more funky, would like to hear a full version of this

Yeah.. the official version is a little bit bland... I mean I know it went with the dark Doggfather theme... but I swear whenever I put that album in the weather turns cloudy to this day that Doggfather album has been a curse on my life. And now my son wants to bump that album, he even liked the Skit about the woman gettin bit by a dog he explained it to me I actually never knew what that skit was all these years, but my 7 yr old got it after one listen

I don't know... just seemed like an odd Skit to me, never really paid attention

"Tha Doggfather" is literally Hip Hop's biggest "coulda, woulda, shoulda". Minus the ultra-mega single(s) this album had potential to be better than "Doggystyle" and I'm not exaggerating.
So much could've and should've been done with that album it will always remain one of Rap's greatest mysteries. And the fact that Snoop never talks about it ever or even that time frame says a lot and adds to its mystique.
Even without Dre, Suge, Pac, & the murder trial he would've easily created a timeless masterpiece. Hr had all of the resources, songs, & instrumentals to do so
-

No, it is not. And do you even know what the word "literally" means because you seem to be confused on that one too.

How exactly?

Timing wasn't on his side, homeboy. Simple as that.

In the comments of the video, someone (makaveli thedon) said that he have this version
It's Doggfather Studio version feat Malis
That guy should upload it!

No, the guy wrote Malis
I don't know who is he! But yeah, maybe he made a mistake and it's featuring Malik

We should put some pressure on him so he uploads it.

He had the westcoast on his bacc and (I believe) sabotaged his own album for a reason. Or maybe reasons...
There's way too many different ways that album could've turnt out. The released version is obviously watered down intentionally. And if you can't hear that then there's no way I can tell u how.
Even the album cover felt like it was 'tampered' with. I'm just looking at the facts, no more no less
(http://s15.postimg.org/ghjrzdd4b/Album_Cover.jpg)
÷ and this was just an uninspired rush job of an after cover. I had a feeling once that the back layout was the front cover. It just seemed too natural
-
i get pissed when they have joe cool do all that coverwork then dont use it. blue carpet was supposed to have a joe cool cover.
i also believed that drawing wass supposed to be the cover not the pic of snoop with the perm
-
Same here.
Wassup holms, everything good?
-
yeah man good to see you around, you got any new mixes?
have a blessed summer g, stay free.

U already kno.

radiotube back in business. this place aint the same without you

Ideally, the album should've had this drawing as the front cover - or a variation of it:

When you place yourself in a business and marketing point of view where you're a prestigious talent company where quality and authenticity is your specialty. Its hard to believe that that album released was released becuz they thought they were giving out the best product.

******My Favorite Color******
*******Sixx Minutes******* (but mixed better, yall know that shit was missin that phunk bassline like a "Keep Ya Heads Ringin" + the organ rhode should've been thick. That whole track's mixing is off. Maybe it was designed to be replayed and re-recorded with live instruments originally? It translates well)

THIS IS THE COOKIE JAR YOU'RE LOOKING IN TO FOR THE FOLLOW UP TO "SNOOP DOGGY DOGG"S DEBUT. And given all that had happened from "Doggystyle" until then plus the more maturer version of Snoop plus friendlier yet still cutting edged enough material. And you can tell by some of his verses he was acting as "Snoopy Corleone"
Thats not even all of the catalog up until then. One just can't simply come to the conclusion this was just "bad timing".
-
Dippin in my low low and any collabo with 2pac not making the album was a huge mistake looking back
esp not having a 2pac collabo....Street Life, If There's a Cure and a few others are just sitting there wasted.

Imo they should've taken Joe off of Street Life and released it as a Single for "Gang Related"
But then again I think Pac wouldve reworked Joe's vocals on or off the track in post-production and put it on "Killuminati" but that whole thing with Snoop & the Radio Station interview about Puffy & Biggie happened so he was probably thinking about scrapping it (for the time being)
-
That album had more than just Snoop's music career on the line...
-
They cocked up the final tracklist really bad - a simple case of overthinking it as opposed to just dropping whats hot and what you feel, like Pac said.
I mean how could you leave tracks like the OG of Head Doctor and Midnite Love off the album? They were certified bangers, not to mention the other tracks that Snoop had locked up in the vault.
-
if it wasnt for dj poohs work on the doggfather it would have been an even bigger disaster.
-
This album couldve been a classic, if they just didnt fuck up the final tracklist that bad...
-
I still enjoy the album for what it is, but I agree it could have been much more...
-
if it wasnt for dj poohs work on the doggfather it would have been an even bigger disaster.
Very true.
-
Poohs involvement was cool but Snoops best material from the era wasn't with him. You could've hit random with any of Snoops tracks from the day and the album would be pretty much the same quality.

lol this ficca, what up one eyed willy
-

He was the problem with the album. His beats were pretty weak for the most part and his mixing skills were highly inadequate. He was the reason why the album lacked that real whiplash. Shit didn't have no type of bass, no kinda mud either (besides "Blueberry" and a couple other tracks)
DJ Quik should've done the whole mix and take over Pooh's contribution to beats with the exception of "Tha Vapors", tho it lacks any kind of bottom and could've been replayed a pitch or two slower.
Snoop said repeatedly he wanted a happier album (in short). That still has nothing to do with the batch of cookies that was baked. Songs like "My Favorite Color", "Tha Vapors", "Groupie", "You Thought", "Midnight Love", "Eastside Party", "Too Blacc" would've easily been noticed as an attempt (some a little commercial but still were pretty rooted in the traditional sound
-
Pooh the writer and director >>>>>>> Pooh the beat maker and engineer
anyday
-
i usually concur with most of the views you express but on this we differ...vapors was ass for sure but pooh is dope.
he brought the same energy in that he provided on dogg food the problem was i believe in the mixing of snoops vocals...doggyland, up jump the boogie and me and my doggs are essential snoop for me. vapors though is one of my least fave of his tracks.
-
Bruh I kno u not gonna sit up here and say you rather have Doggyland on the album rather than (say...) County Blues. My Favorite Color over a stronger instrumental wouldve gone down as one of Hip Hop's most conscience gangsta rap Singles.
Pooh's lack of thump seemed crazy.
I think Pooh was intentionally used as an [/I]instrument for the process - no pun intended
There's more to the story behind this album than what we've been told.
-
dj pooh is a dope producer, ur underratin him my bro

I think the Pooh hate for this album is unjust...Snoop just experimented with different flows for this album it wasn't Poohs mixing that was the problem IMO

Also don't have any problem with some of the dope beats here, snoop just fucked up his delivery on a few songs...
-
It's funny because death row/suge would clear for warren g to feature on a death row release, but when it came time to release warren g album he couldn't clear for snoop to be on "this dj" because snoop was originally on that. And there has to be some other involvement from the Dogg pound that wasn't clear. Tha Dogg pound was also on warrens second album death row hated on that too, because nate dogg was already on it and they didn't want death row artist all on a release for artist not on death row.... So warren g, never could have produced for snoop while he was on death row, suge wasn't fucking with him or def jam...
-
That album had more than just Snoop's music career on the line...
that album had everything on the line, the whole West Coast, Death Row, the 90's golden age of rap.... it was like if Michael Jordan had failed and the Bulls lost to the Sonics in 96
...I mean, Snoop had never disapointed up until then, Chronic, Doggystyle, Murder Was The Case...
-
(http://s15.postimg.org/ghjrzdd4b/Album_Cover.jpg)
this woulda been a much better cover
-
Pooh the Writer & Director >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pooh the Beatmaker/Producer
Y'all already know my thoughts on that album tho smh. I always seen what he was aiming for tho.

There is, I believe, a Battlecat-produced remix of 'The Vapors' which features Charlie Wilson. This is why his name is mistakenly listed in the booklet of the album, but of course he doesn't in fact appear on the track. The remix remains unreleased, and as far as I'm aware, there is not even a snippet of it available.
It's also strange how Jodeci aren't credited as being on 'Sixx Minutes', when it's clearly them (or one of them) at the end of the song.

Would be interesting to hear that one but most likely we'll never hear it

I think the live version of the vapors remix was released on one of the singles (either the vapors or snoops upside ya head).
I wonder how the producers (i think it was Arkim and flair) of sixx minutes got involved with the album and where are they now.
-
I got that Vapors Single on my laptop and there is a live version of vapors and it sounds different from the album version...
Would love to hear it in a studio version..
And yeah always wondered what happened to Arkim & Flair, do they got any other production credits ?
-
"6 Minutes" might've been the worst song on the album
-
"6 Minutes" might've been the worst song on the album
The beat was tight (although there was a lil thing missin in it), but snoop was just lazy as fuck on that song.
If he wouldve really flowed on that song it wouldve been tight as hell.
