Damn. This album is incredible. It was so unique nobody really understood it. Here's some things I'd like to highlight about this album....
2. "East Coast Killa/West Coast Killa"- This is one of the illest tracks ever made. And it was a landmark track for it's time because the East and West were beefin and this was a statement record. Should of been the biggest record of the year.
3. "Shittin on The World"- Okay, Mel-Man isn't the greatest mc ever, but damn, he's got some fresh lyrics. This track was creative as hell.
4. "Blunt Time"- RBX- Nother creative track, and damn that chorus is funky
5. "Been There Done That"- Dre- I think Nationowl wrote this track cause Dre methodically weaves his way through this track and makes another great statement. Shows his growth as a person.
9. "Straight Gone"- King Tee- Damn! King Tee destroys this track. His flow, lyrics, everything is on point.
10. "Please"- Solid R@B record
12. "Sexy Dance"- Man.. nother solid R@B track, this cat should of been a star
13. "Law" -Shareef- Damn. The flow, lyrics, beat everything on point.
14. Nationowl- Nationowl- Okay, this is the one everyone is sleeping on. For real. There used to be a conspiracy theory that this cat was Hittman back before we saw pictures of Hit. But there's no comparison. This cat is way iller. He's deep. He's real. Every word is from the soul. If this cat would of put together a whole album it would of changed the way people looked at hip-hop. Listen to the flow, the way he webs his lyrics together. This track is low key, but stands out above others.
15. Fame- This track should of been a huge hit. Busta Rhymes was supposed to be on it. But since he didn't make it Dre didn't release it as a single.
Anyone else agree this album was ahead of it's time. Or from another time, or nother world. Ya'll weren't ready for it. Peace.

Everyone reply to this thread with your thoughts on the record. Especially anyone who feels me that Nationowl was one of hip-hop's most unique talents we'll never get to hear again. And ya'll agree Nationowl probably wrote "Been There Done That" cause Dre shouts him out at the end. And Dre spits about the "Illuminati".. that sounds like my man Nationowl.

I agree homie, Nationowl's joint was the most slept on track on the CD. But why di you say we'll never hear from him again? Did I miss something - is dude dead or something???
-
That album was as weak your review guy.

who been there......was wrote by j flexx,in the booklet it reads james anderson/SUGE publishing

Dope. I didn't know anyone would agree with me about Nationowl. I thought I was the only one. Much props. You have great taste in music.
And is he dead? No. I don't think so. But 3/4's of the artists on that record should have their faces pictured on milk cartons. Nationowl is just one of them that disapeared after that record. Maybe he converted to Islam and moved to Mauratania or something.

I think JFlexx just helped produce it. Dre doesn't usually list his ghost writers in the liner notes.

Check out these lyrics..
"Nationowl"
(feat. Nowl)
(All right, is everybody ready (YEAH!))
(Alright now, here we go)
Nationowl divides this bomb to blow
Adios serials worldwide
Once inside ya ride, usin the mic like a screwdriver
to break down the speed
While labels were sound asleep, Nowl peeped and creeped
and stole the ground beneath they feet
Far from the bail, still makin my sales
Movin tapes like weight, we's hip-hop cartel
takin over, no doubt
Like thongs, they ass out but win amounts with the Doctor
Dre, all day cash his cheques
Like Play, I hittin you in the head like strays (BUU-YU-KOW!)
Nationowl's defence covers my ass
and team o' outcast niggas who're quick to blast
Our beat's on hit, keep the peace on
MC's couldn't find my path (Where you at niggas?)
[Chorus:]
Pledge a legiance to my team
Let's scheme, nigga, we gots ta get CREAM
Cos worldwide shit's outta control
Why you can't get down with Nationowl
Young and old, my niggas who's on parole
Why you can't get down with Nationowl
Bitches who own, my niggas whose heart is cold
Why you can't get down with Nationowl
Nationowl's anthem, got'cha soul on lock
still fully loaded, cocked the handgun
Composed like the Phantom
while the face of earth gets ugly, we ever lovely
Bitches who never duck me, "Nowl loved me"
In thinkin I must spend dough til I'm dizzy
Assholes around like a frisby
And for satisfaction chew an MC like Wrigley
History's about to be made, I met'cha in a way
tryin ya hardest to delay
My flight batterin, keep the world ringin like *?Sadaran?*
Lyrics bone shatterin
Pretenders wantin to be Cinder-rella
What? That shoe you tryin ta wears, not fittin
Now we're strippin niggas like a Chippendale
I'm rippin hell, burnin the devil and inhale
[Chorus]
In the last days, which side will you be on?
Nationowl's on the side that I beat on
I demand put me on
From the door I use MC's to wipe my feet on
My shit be bumpin like in-grown hair
For twenty-six years trained in ghetto warfare
Nigga, I see more green than St. Patrick
Pro actors, game of life with no practice
Controllin craps like I had a remote
It's a rule, now go enter ya tomb
No joke, much over I scold
It's some game for all who's tryin ta split ya coats
Best believe that these are our last years
Prepare or get done from the rear
As we move there, where? The final frontier
United we stand, divided we don't have a prayer
[Chorus]
Are you wit me East Coast?
Are you wit me West Coast?
Are you wit me?
Are you wit me?
Are you wit me West Coast?
Are you wit me East Coast?
Are you wit me?
Are you wit me?

lol... that's the line that sticks in my head. You know who he reminds me of? Quik. Smooth, calm flow, clever lyrics without complex arrangements and still keeping it G but with no bullshit gangsta topics.
In fact, that would be a dream combo - resurrect this guy's career over Quik production. ;D
Oh, and Jory - we ain't talking about "WHO Been There.."; that's a track from Death Row's Greatest Hits dissing Dre. It's performed by J Flexx and uses the chorus to Dre's "Been There, Done That" from this CD. Ain't no way Dre would be having "Suge Publishing" over his record... ;)
-
word this album is made out to be horrible but it aint even near that....this shit is banging not bad at all....of course not as great as some other aftermath stuff but this shit is mad slept on
-

I think JFlexx just helped produce it. Dre doesn't usually list his ghost writers in the liner notes.
Yes, he does if you look at the credits in 2001, you will see Shawn Carter's name and publishing company in his liner notes for Still D.R.E. you will see Lord Finesse's name and publishing company in the liner notes. What are you talking about?

Actually mate, Infinite is right; by definition a ghost writer isn't credited. Jay Z isn't technically a ghost writer, as he gets full credit. He's the writer, period. However, if Daz or Warren produced tracks on Doggystyle and Dre got his name on them, as is rumoured, then they were the ghost producers. Anyway, it's all irrelevant, 'cause as I said, Jory had the tracks mixed up.

i love the begining of the record
the middle is iffy
and the end of the record i like

I think this compilation was just something to keep Dre's name out in the public until he could solidify himself in the business.
And as far as publishing, I wish I could hire some of y'all cause I would play you for all your worth (legally). It's really a shame that folks who are "consumers" try to become "manufacturers" and have no ideal to the rules therein.
"Ghost writers" (or at least song writers who want to GET PAID) will secure their own publishing through one of the major publishing conglomerates. ALL songwriters receive income from six basic uses/licenses 1. mechanical 2. performance 3. synchronization 4. print 5. foreign 6. special use.
So unless you are a complete idiot or will get a couple of g's for writing a song, that may be a hit and make thousands if not millions, then you will be broke. All writers (ghost writers are songwriters who pen songs for other artists) with a half brain will know that legally and contractually if you have a composition that will be sold, you must be given credit. Why Damon X? Because revenue collection (outlined by the 6 ways a songwriter will get paid via royalty checks) for the songwriter relies so heavily on the function of the song's publisher.
AGAIN IF YOU WRITE A SONG FOR AN ARTIST AND YOU ARE NOT GIVEN CREDIT, YOU CAN SUE FOR DAMAGES (only if you have proof, via publishing, that you pen those lyrics).
Ghost-writers do get paid unless they have no idea or sign away their shit for a gold-chain.
I know of a brother (who just writes songs, is not an artist) from DC who "ghost-writes" for Will Smith and let's just say his publishing paid for college, grad school and he has a nice stash put away. His name is listed as a songwriter on Smith's albums.
Lauryn Hill tried to deny producer credits (which is different from songwriter's credits) and was sued by the production team in NJ and she lost and had to pay them, since her album was a hit, that was more money she had to dish out, because she tried to be slick with it.
STUDY THE BUSINESS, READING RAP MAGAZINES AND WATCHING VIDEOS WILL PREPARE YOU FOR FAST TRIP TO NOWHERE.

^^Good for you...I basically knew everything you just said...It's all common sense...
And yea, the album is dope...4/5...PeACe
-
and yea...Natinowl is dope...You kinda overexagerated, he's not one of the bests, but he got dope lyrics...PeACe
-
"Sexy Dance" was supposed to have a video, but they never did it.
"Been there done that" was made when Dre was still on Death Row. So was the beat for "Blunt Time".
The album def. has dome dope songs.
-
Maaan! i thought i was the only one who liked this album! Album is filled with AMAZING beats! The Intro, Eastcoast/Westcoastkillaz(I dont know in what direction Dre was heading then, anyway - a dope direction, sounds like nothing else), Shittin on the world, Blunt time(Hard strings - would love Tupac on this one), Been There Done that(Speaks 4 itself), Sexy Dance(REAL Dope Dre prod.), Got me open(maan i love it when Dre kicks in, sooo fukkin dope!) Str8 Gone, Fame(King T rips this one), As the world keeps turning(..chronic keeps burnin´)
Even the leftovers beats are good(My Life/Sunshine)
This is the kind of beats i love.. 2 me - 4.5/5 No doubt!
Peace
