stumbled across this just being high on the internet... interesting if true, I guess at that time they weren't allowed to play any newly released music from these dudes because they "didn't appeal to their demographic"

Smells like bullshit.
I can see them not playing these artists as the bulk of their music doesn't appeal to the main demographic, but I don't think anyone at BET went out of their way to ban any and all content from these artists. Most of them just don't make music that is commercial.

All stations do have these lists. Its norm...even clubs do it.
They all have programming directors that makes these calls...and to look at it...its not all that unreasonable
