my computer is really startin to piss me off now
every single time i listen to a mp3 it..."skips" i guess you could say,its gotten so bad i just dont both listening to mp3s anymore
so what do you think could be causing this? it didnt start doin it this bad until like a week ago,and im not low on harddrive space or anything (i have about 30 gigs left)
soooooo any suggestions on how to fix this piece of shit

sound card drivers either dodgy or somethings interrupting them.. check theres nothing unwanted running
-
Could be ram issues too. My old cpu would skip like crazy while playing mp3's, and then I added 128 meg of ram and it took care of the prob. How fast is your cpu?
-
we added 128 megs of ram 2 months ago,so i think that makes 256 megs on ram in our computer, not sure but i think thats right....

I had the exaxt same problem, and it can be several things..
* What worked for me in the end, was updating the BIOS, as there was a bug in the current version, which made everything freeze/skip every 6 or 7 seconds.
* You could be low on RAM, check your settings.. 256 should be enough, but unneccessary programs eats memory if you don't disable them.
Hit "Run" and type "msconfig" and remove programs such as RealPlayer, Winamp, etc.
This will make them stop running in the background all the time..
Don't remove things that you don't know what is.
* Try updating the drivers to your soundcard, and of course that the soundcard is properly inserted.
-
check for irq conflicts too , if your soundcard is on the same irq as another device on your machine it'll cause them to conflict which as a result will have one cutting off the other.
-
ok, easiest way to check
open up sound recorder (start, programs, accessories, entertainment) and open up a .wav file. if that plays fine
what version of winamp are you using? try using 2.97 if you're on winamp3.x, i find it was buggy as hell & slows down computers ALOT
updating your BIOS wont do much @ all, 256mb of ram is PLENTY to run mp3s and for general day to day usage.

Worked for me.. I had the exact same problem.
The previous BIOS-driver had a conflict that made it skip every now and then..

well now it seems to be working fine, and i didnt do anything and have more programs runnin than usual.........weird huh

Maybe you spilled Applesauce on your keyboard?
