Motorcade With Rapper Snoop Dogg Hit by Gunfire; Bodyguard Wounded

A caravan of five cars, one containing rap music artist Snoop Dogg, was sprayed with gunfire from a passing vehicle in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles on Thursday night, injuring his bodyguard.
The motorcade was headed south on Fairfax Avenue near Washington Boulevard about 9 p.m. when a car pulled alongside the group and an occupant fired at them repeatedly, police said. Two of the cars were hit and one man was injured, according to LAPD Officer Don Cox, a department spokesman.
The victim was identified preliminarily as an off-duty Inglewood Unified School District police officer who was working as a bodyguard. Authorities said he suffered a non-life-threatening wound and was taken to Kaiser Foundation Hospital in West Los Angeles.
Sources said Snoop Dogg employs two Inglewood schools police officers.
Three men were taken into custody about a mile from the scene but were released several hours later after questioning at the Wilshire Division station, Cox said.
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was uninjured. The intersection remained taped off near midnight as police combed the area with dogs and flashlights.
In February 1996, Broadus and his bodyguard, McKinley Lee, were acquitted of murder charges in the August 1993 shooting death of a young man in a Palms park.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A shooting in Los Angeles Thursday night struck a convoy of cars, one of which was carrying rapper Snoop Dogg.
Authorities said one of the musician's bodyguards was injured. Snoop Dogg was not hurt.
Police said up to five cars were traveling through the Mid-City area when the shooting happened at about 9 p.m. (PST). The rap star's entourage included seven bodyguards -- five were from the Inglewood school district and two were state parole officers.
Another car pulled alongside the convoy and three men with guns opened fire. Police Sergeant Brian Owen said it appeared that one of the gunmen wanted to speak with the rapper, and words were exchanged before bullets hit two of the cars.
An off-duty police officer with the Inglewood school district was shot in the back. He was taken to a hospital and released early Friday.
It's unclear if the wounded man was in the same car as Snoop Dogg.
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was questioned by police along with the bodyguards and other people who were with him. Owen saids he does not expect 31-year-old Broadus and the others to be booked for a crime.
No arrests have been made.

thank god snoop dogg wasn't shot and killed here cause if the hip hop fans have already lost enough legends as it is and if we were to lose one of the greatest and a certified legend in snoop dogg that would make things even worse.

An unknown assailant opened fire on Snoop Dogg and his entourage on Thursday night in Los Angeles, injuring one of the rapper's bodyguards.
Police said that at about 9 p.m. on Thursday night, Snoop was in a car traveling south on Fairfax Avenue and was accompanied by five other cars, which an LAPD spokesperson referred to as "security vehicles." A sedan carrying an unspecified number of black males that was traveling in the opposite direction then shot at Snoop's crew. Two of the cars were hit and one of the security guards was grazed by a bullet in his back.
The injury was not life-threatening and no one else was struck, police said. Snoop and the individuals with whom he was traveling were questioned as witnesses. No arrests were made, and there are no suspects and no motive.
The spokesperson for the LAPD did not release the identity of Snoop's injured bodyguard. However, the Los Angeles Times reported that he and several other members of the security team were off-duty police officers who work in the Inglewood school district.
