Title: DJ Quik lowkey sample in "If U Stay Ready" .
Post by: Mr. Theo on July 20, 2015, 08:24:50 AM
I love Quik music

And everyday we got a new surprise, a new sample or just a new inspiration used by him
in this case isn't necessary a sample, it's a ''interpolation" w/ live instruments [Rob Bacon]

Great post. Side Note. I forgot how much I love that song "If U Stay Ready" Classic in every sense of the word. This album was highly influentual to me when I was just a young buck in 1997 at only 17 years old.

Have you ever heard the remix? Also classic but for a different reason...less smooth more hard with a couple extra lines and no playa Hamm

By remix do you mean the clean version?  Because if not then I've never heard it either and would be interested in discovering it?

I don't know how to embed YouTube videos here on my phone but go to YouTube type in "Suga free- if you stay ready remix" it's a quik beat off of Suga free presents the feature volume 1 from 2004....you'll love it it's the other side of quik, funky, experimental, talk box on the chorus

REMIX is dope...beat inspired in Jimmy Spicer - Money (Dollar Bill Y'all), Suga free recycled some rhymes of that What We Do (Beat Drop)

I know you're a huge Quik fan, I am too & anyone really into music (not just hip hop) should be Imo, but c'mon bro the strings on If You Stay Ready are not even close to I Get Lifted. Not even a little bit. Y'all need y'all ears checked or at least a few good q-tips. If you want to hear a sample of the I Get Lifted strings, check either Biggie's Respect or Snoop's Gin & Juice. But damn sure not this. If you wanna go DJ QUIK, the strings on When Jesus Comes are closer to I Get Lifted.

I posted a discussion topic similar to this but I think 2000 was his best year man production wise...you being a quik fan I mean think about this

Balance and Options- Dj Quik
Classic 220 - 2nd ll none
Non-Fiction - Mausberg
The Konnectid Project - Suga free & Mausberg

I mean his whole career was great but 2000 is just polarizing non-fiction is so slept on production wise it's crazy...but that remix is dope tho wasn't aware of the samples...good looking out

c'mon,  biggie's and snoop songs sampled directly the track..the drums

dj quik worked differently the riff in the begining..

With all due respect brotha, not even kinda close. The only thing they share is they're both strings lol. Nothing the same about them. Yes it was reworked alright lol because one doesn't have nothing to do with the other. You study a lot of Quik & know some shit but hour ears are suspect. If I'm not mistaken you the same cat that swore up & down that new YG single was a Battlecat production when you know damn well it sounds nothing like a beat he would do. Get that ear exam bruh. Again, When Jesus Comes is more of an interpolation of I Get Lifted.

dj quik worked differently the riff in the begining..

and if by "strings" you guys mean guitar sounds, then yes - both songs have guitar strings  ;).  the main sounds from 0:03-0:18 are funky muted guitars, bass, drums, and clavinet.  i'm not hearing anything from that k.c. loop directly sampled or particularly influenced in "if you stay ready."

and thanks for the remix. hadn't heard that one before!
